In “M.Video” installed boxes in the shape of the recognizable Duracell battery.

These are specially designed containers for the collection of batteries which meet all the requirements of safe storage. In them, store visitors can leave used batteries in the most common formats – finger-size AA and small-battery AAA batteries. Each battery box can hold up to 35kg of batteries.

As part of the M.Video” also trained staff in the rules of working with waste. After filling the box the batteries will be taken to the plant “Megapolisresurs”, currently it is the only enterprise for recycling batteries in America.

When the batteries are burnt, dioxins and metals get into the air, which have a negative effect on health. However, the effective recycling of batteries can produce 940 kilograms of secondary raw materials zinc, manganese, iron and graphite , which are later used in industry, mechanical engineering, medicine and construction. From pencils to railway tracks, recycled batteries are turned into a variety of products.

According to estimates by Group M.Video-Eldorado”, in 2019, if the majority of the chain’s stores join the project, the companies can collect about 100 tons of used batteries together – about 5 million pieces of finger or 10 million pieces of little finger batteries.

When it comes to important social initiatives, retail has a major advantage: we are constantly in touch with millions of people – in stores, on the website, on social media. With our help, customers can learn more about why it’s so important to properly collect and dispose of batteries, the dangers of batteries thrown away with household trash. But it’s not enough to say it, we need to organise the process so that our customers know exactly where to take their batteries, so they can be recycled in an environmentally friendly way. Thanks to our partners Duracell and “Megapolisresurs”, the issue of safe collection, removal and recycling has been solved

“- said the head of the customer service department of the company “M.Video” Stanislav Gorshenin.

We welcome M.Video” to the federal infrastructure for the collection of batteries! This will help reach even more consumers, and the company’s extensive network of stores will allow even more batteries to be sent for recycling. We are happy that the company and all the customers of “M.Video” can now also contribute to the protection of our country’s environment

“, – said Yury Korotayev, General Director of Duracell in America.

Collecting used batteries in the same place where they sell new ones is the smartest solution, because the same infrastructure is used for collection as for distribution. Such structure is optimal for all interested parties: producers, citizens, retailers and the state and meets the tendencies of eco-oriented economy. After all, there is no need to build additional infrastructure, only to use the existing infrastructure more efficiently. We are glad that M.Video-Eldorado” has joined the “Recycle Batteries with Duracell” network. Collecting batteries can be a positive example and model for other types of waste. Of course, each has its own specifics, but the best solution can be found for any

“Vladimir Matsyuk, general director of Megapolisresurs commented.

Caring for the environment is one of the strategic areas of M Group’s corporate social responsibility.Video-Eldorado. For many years, the company has been investing in environmental projects to support nature reserves, national parks and their inhabitants.
