2017. LG Deep Learning technology allows appliances to understand their users better by collecting and learning about their lifestyles. This process never ends and improves over time to provide customers with new solutions to everyday problems.

Robot cleaner: increased efficiency through memorization of obstacle locations

With multiple sensors and LG Deep Learning technology, LG’s new robotic vacuum cleaner recognizes objects in the room and responds accordingly depending on their type. By gathering images of surfaces in the room, the clever appliance “remembers” the position of obstacles and then learns how to avoid them. It even recognizes wires and shoes, sparing users the worry of getting stuck or tangled in them. What’s more, if the smart robot vacuum recognizes the difference between a person and, say, a chair and asks the person to step aside with a polite voice alert, while in a chair situation it will simply maneuver calmly.

Refrigerator: ultimate convenience

LG Deep Learning technology has also helped increase the level of consumer convenience represented by LG’s smart refrigerator. By analyzing the lifestyle and behavior patterns of the user, the refrigerator is able to perform a variety of additional activities, anticipating the family’s activities based on their normal daily routine. For example, it automatically fills the ice tray at a time of day when cold drinks are most needed. In summer, LG’s smart refrigerator can turn on the sterilization functions in 4 steps to prevent food spoilage caused by exposure to high temperature and humidity in the summertime.

Air conditioner: energy saving and fast results

LG’s “smart” air conditioner, enhanced with LG Deep Learning technology, analyzes the daily behavior patterns of its users, including what parts of the house they prefer to rest in and what parts they do not go to very often. With this information, an air conditioner can keep these important areas cool and comfortable by quickly delivering cool air directly to these areas. For example, on weekends the living room may be the priority area requiring cooling or heating, while on weekdays the kitchen may be the center of activity.

Washing machine: optimal performance in all situations

The new technology helps LG’s washing machine learn more about the local environment and the user’s daily activities in order to ensure optimal washing performance. For example, in areas with hard water, LG’s smart washing machine adjusts the water temperature and amount of water used for fighting, reducing the effects of such water on clothes. In areas where dust storms are common, the washing machine automatically adds another rinse cycle for cleaner laundry.

“Deep learning technology is the next stage in the development of smart appliances, and as one of the industry leaders, we are taking on the responsibility of promoting it,

– Mr. Dahyun Song, President of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solutions. –

But it’s not just the ability of the appliances that matters, but also the company’s behavior toward the data being entrusted. At LG, we believe that work and convenience don’t mean sacrificing safety and privacy. They can and should exist at the same time.”.
