Getting the animals ready for vaccinations

Our four-legged friends, dogs and cats, need special protection in summer. Together with their owners they move to country houses, where, besides the undeniable joy of walking outdoors, bathing in ponds and hunting small game, they face many dangers. For this reason it is better to take preventive measures and conduct a comprehensive vaccination before going into the nature.

Curiosity is not a vice..

In summer, when the animals are practically “out in the open” it is quite difficult for us to keep track of all their contacts. Among them can be both quite harmless – contact with the neighbor’s Murka and Aces – and sometimes very dangerous. In recent years, in areas of suburban areas more and more often encountered wild animals, usually foxes and hedgehogs, infected with rabies. This disease is deadly to both animals and humans and is transmitted instantly with saliva during a bite. As it is impossible to completely exclude the contact of a domestic cat or dog with the carrier of rabies virus, we need to take care of the protection of our pets.

Comprehensive vaccination, including, in particular, rabies vaccination, must be planned so that the body of a pet has time to form an immune response – optimally at least two weeks before the planned trip out of town. But it is also important to remember: before vaccination it is necessary to carry out deworming – “to banish worms”.

hat is the “role” of worms in the body. Toxic substances that they emit in the process of their own life, literally poison the life of the owner – a cat or a dog. Worms or their larvae get into the animals body during walking, when communicating with infected tribesmen or while sniffing excrement. They can also “come” on your own shoes, so it’s best to wipe your shoes with a damp cloth when you enter or wash them.

The most dangerous are considered to be tapeworms, roundworms and protozoa – giardia. They can be transmitted to humans by contact with pets, causing various health problems. Lamblia may cause digestive disorders, in particular diarrhea, echinococcus affects the central nervous system and muscles, and round worms can even cause blindness! Families with small children need to be especially attentive to issues of deworming, because they play with furry friends, sleep in their arms, kiss their pets, not caring about hygiene rules and not thinking about possible consequences.

How often should animals be dewormed??

According to the recommendations of the European Scientific Society for Parasitology of Small Pets, it is recommended to give antihelminthic preparations to animals once per quarter once every 3 months . These recommendations are based on the knowledge of the development cycles of parasites, their biology and ways of infection.

At the same time you should not forget that the probability of worming increases during the holiday season. The reason for this is frequent contact with neighboring animals, hunting small rodents mice, etc.p. , so it is important to follow the schedule of prophylaxis. If you observe in the pet such symptoms of infection as stool disorders, loss of appetite, vomiting, frequent licking of the area around the anus, deterioration of the coat, you need to give antihelmintic immediately.

Protection for the pet

Drontal® tablets for cats and Drontal® Plus for dogs can provide complex protection from all kinds of parasites. These preparations of wide spectrum of action help to get rid of the majority of the most dangerous and common for animals and humans species of parasites. Active substances of anthelmintic agents, after performing their task of destroying parasites, do not enter the blood and are excreted from the body.

The preparations are available in the form of a meat-scented bone that appeals to four-legged gourmands, so that you can give your pet medicine without any problems. Mark a preventive date on your calendar, so you can have another healthy “treat” in three months.

After vaccination

Any vaccination requires following simple rules not only before but also after it. In the first days, try to provide your pet with peace: either do not take the animal outdoors, or limit the walking period, physical activity and communication with other animals. You should also not bathe your pets at first. The adaptation period for the immune system is 2-3 weeks – during this period the substances necessary to protect pets from rabies and other viral diseases are produced. Now, having armed with the necessary knowledge and having protected your friends from possible mishaps, you can safely go to the nature – the whole summer is ahead! Let it bring only positive emotions!
