Gemalto and VALEO work together to turn smartphone into a trusty electronic key

Paris and Amsterdam, September 22, 2016. – Valeo, one of the world’s leading automotive suppliers, is working with Gemalto, a global leader in digital security, to secure the Valeo InBlue® electronic car key system. With Valeo InBlue® technology, drivers can use their smartphone or connected watch to lock, unlock and start their cars, using apps to control and remotely access vehicle data via Bluetooth®.

Phones and Connectivity

This innovation was based on the principle of onboard equipment connected to smartphone software development kit SDK , which provides hosting of a secure electronic key for the vehicle via Valeo cloud platform.

Valeo InBlue® technology uses Gemalto’s Allynis Trusted Services Hub TSH solution to provide secure wireless Over-The-Air OTA deployment and lifecycle management of applications and sensitive vehicle credentials.

This Gemalto solution provides secure transmission of vehicle electronic keys and their secure storage on smartphones. In addition, the technology is comparable in terms of security to current mobile payment solutions used by banks around the world. Valeo InBlue® technology is compatible with Android or iOS for smartphones connected to any mobile network. The ease of implementation of this solution allows it to be deployed in any market.
