Tip #1. General cleaning

Before starting a major backup it is imperative to make sure that the system is purged of everything “superfluous”. This category may include applications that you do not use for a long time, files with unnecessary or outdated information, which has not opened for a long time, fragmented files, temporary files, browser history and cookies. Deleting them will help free up some space on the drive, and will also make the backup process much easier and faster.

Tip #2. Strategic Planning

Strategic planning – it is important to have a clear strategy when dealing with backups. The first step is to determine which files and folders will be backed up exactly, and how often. Then choose a suitable location for storing that data, such as an external drive or the cloud. Finally, it is worth configuring the software so that the backup process runs automatically at a time of your choice.

Tip #3. Full and partial backups

PC users should back up their entire system from time to time, but this does not mean they should always have a full backup. Periodically, it is advisable to supplement such major operations by copying only the data that has changed or appeared on the hard drives since the last backup.

Tip #4. Applying the “3-2-1” principle

It is recommended that you back up your data according to this simple principle. This means that a total of three copies of user data are created, two of which are stored locally on different media, such as external hard drives or flash drives, and the third is stored in another secure location or in the cloud.

Tip #5. Data recovery

A sudden system crash can result in data loss, so the last tip is worth talking about the process of restoring data from a backup using special software. Above all the software should be flexible and versatile. For example, it must support the recovery of not only the entire system but also of individual files or folders and copying of the recovered data to another medium chosen by the user.

There are a lot of solutions on the market today for backing up data and restoring it later. When choosing such a solution, the first thing you should pay attention to is its quality and whether its capabilities meet your requirements. For example, you need to check if it is compatible with your PC or laptop and supports all the necessary features.

Toshiba has developed a range of external drives that come with data backup software and can protect user data from unauthorized access with a password. These include the Canvio Advance, Canvio Alu, Canvio Premium, Canvio Slim, and Canvio for Desktop product lines.

Toshiba recommends using their own backup software called Toshiba Storage Backup Software for backing up data effectively. The steps involved in implementing this method include downloading and installing the software, connecting your Toshiba storage device to your computer, opening the backup software and selecting the files or folders you want to back up, choosing the destination on the Toshiba storage device for the backup, setting the backup schedule and preferences, and finally initiating the backup process. It is important to regularly update the backup settings and ensure that the backups are successful to protect your data.
