On November 26, 2015, MAKERSPACE Community Workshop 1905 hosted the second educational DIY workshop, āDremel Master Class in Real Lifeā. The event was hosted by the Dremel brand, one of the leaders in high-speed, multi-tools for repair and DIY.
Dremel gives vinyl a second life Some people like to listen to records, some like to make crafts with them. At the end of November I had my second Dremel educational workshop on how to make unique vinyl crafts.
If the first workshop Dremel held in October was full of tips for minor repairs, the second workshop was full of original ideas for vinyl record crafts. The same ones that many of us still have in our closets as a reminder of our youth. So how do you give your records a second life??
Peopleās expert, designer Svetlana Barsukova, answered this question. At the workshop, she talked about a unique technique for making jewelry and accessories from old vinyl records. Not without crafts. From two old vinyls Svetlana made a stand for business cards, a small floor lamp, a Christmas tree toy, and earrings and a pendant. Svetlana used a Dremel 4000 Multitool with a flexible shaft, a Dremel Versatip gas torch and accessories number 113, 538, 429 to make each of her handcrafts.
āThrough getting to know craftsmen like Svetlana we learn new ways to use Dremel tools. Creating vinyl crafts is a challenging but fascinating process, as each record requires a special techniqueā,
ā says Maria Voroshnina from Dremel America.
Of course, the opportunity to melt, cut and give an unexpected shape to vinyl records fell to the guests of the event as well. Guided by the advice of Dremel expert Alexander Nefedov everyone could make an unusual handcraft, which could decorate their homes or make their loved ones happy.
This article on Dremel giving vinyl a second life through crafts is fascinating! Iām curious to know what kind of crafts can be done specifically with vinyl using Dremel tools. Can you provide some examples and maybe even share some tips on getting started with these projects?
There are so many creative possibilities when it comes to using Dremel tools to repurpose vinyl records! Some popular crafts include making decorative bowls or trays by heating and shaping the vinyl, creating unique wall art or clocks by engraving designs onto the surface, or even making jewelry like earrings or pendants by cutting and shaping the vinyl into different shapes.
To get started with these projects, itās important to have the right Dremel tools such as a rotary tool with various attachments like cutting wheels, grinding stones, or engraving bits. Itās also helpful to have a heat gun if youāre planning to shape the vinyl.
Before starting a project, be sure to carefully plan out your design and take safety precautions like wearing protective gloves and goggles. Experiment with different techniques and have fun exploring the endless possibilities of repurposing vinyl with Dremel tools!
