The experts of the organization also calculated how much money a American will spend on coffee per year, using an automatic or capsule coffee machine or buying coffee in an average coffee shop at the rate of 1 cup of coffee a day.

So, on average an automatic coffee machine will cost the consumer 50,000 Dollars, coffee beans – an average of 2,555 Dollars a year, and the cost of energy consumption of the machine – another 730 Dollars annually. Total, 365 cups of coffee when using an automatic coffee machine will cost the consumer 53,285 Dollars in the first year, and 3,285 Dollars in the following years.

The coffee itself, prepared by a capsule coffee machine, turns out to be a little more expensive, given that to prepare 1 cup it is necessary to use 1 ready-made capsule. On average, a 365 capsule coffee will cost the consumer 16,425 Dollars, the energy consumption is 730 Dollars a year, and the capsule coffee machine itself is much cheaper than the machine – about 10,000 Dollars. Total, a American will pay about 27,155 Dollars for the first year of using a capsule coffee machine, and 17,155 Dollars for the following years.

The most expensive way is to buy your daily coffee from the average coffee shop. Every year American spends about 43,800 Dollars. To help consumers make an informed choice in favor of a coffee machine model that fits into their personal budget and has features important to the user, Roskachestvo presented a comparative rating of coffee machines.

Laboratory tests

The experts in one of the best test centers in Europe prepared more than 2.5 thousand cups of coffee, about this much coffee, consuming two cups a day, a person drinks in 2.5-3 years. We bought 200 kg of pure Arabica and a thousand capsules prepared on each of tested samples.

Approximately 30 models presented on the American market under the Bosch, Delonghi, Philips, Miele, Melitta, Krups, Siemens, Jura, and Saeco brands were subjected to the laboratory tests. The study included both automatic and “capsule” coffee machines, a comparative rating allows consumers to make an individual choice based on personal preferences.

The 20 directions of testing were based on more than 90 criteria, including brewing speed, temperature, quality of the beverage, usability and energy consumption.

Additionally, they looked at the dynamic quality of the beverage, to see if the quality of the first and 50th cup of coffee made with the same espresso machine was the same. According to the results of coffee machines survey, the highest result in the overall rating was shown by DeLonghi PrimaDonna Elite automatic machine.

In addition, the list of the best automatic Jura with the model E8 and capsule Delonghi EN80.B Inissia. The lowest scores were given to Saeco Minuto HD8763/01 Cappuccino, Melitta Caffeo Passione OT Silver F53/1-101 and Miele CM 6310 OBSW.

Krups XN1001 Inissia

The best espresso you can get from a capsule machine.

According to the test results, the top ten in terms of espresso quality consisted of 60% of capsule coffee machines and 40% of automatic coffee machines. But the top three were occupied entirely by Krups capsule coffee machines. These were the models Krups XN1001 Inissia, Krups XN 3005 NESPRESSO PIXIE as well as Krups Pixie XN300D.

The expert group, consisting of 30 organolepts, tasted coffee in isolated rooms, obtaining impersonal samples of the brewed beverage. While tasting the coffee, the experts evaluated the prepared coffee on a five-point scale according to the following criteria: color consistency of crema, smell, degree of beans roasting, bitterness, and saturation of taste.

Drinking technology

The fastest machines are capsule machines.

The Krups XN 3005 NESPRESSO PIXIE, Krups Pixie XN300D and Delonghi Nespresso Lattissima EN550 are leading with small margins. B. All tested capsule coffee machines also received the highest marks for energy efficiency.

For the automatic espresso machine, fast doesn’t always have to mean good. After all, the time should be enough for the extraction to take place, that is, the transfer of caffeine and essential oils into the water. It takes 22.5 to 27.5 seconds for a 40 ml espresso cup. If you procrastinate, the coffee will become too bitter, and if you hurry, the beverage will risk undercooking.

Jura E8

The most convenient coffee machine – automatic.

There are 8 automatic coffee machines and only 2 capsule ones in top 10 by this parameter. Jura E8 tops the list. The capsules also made the three least convenient machines. We are talking about Krups Drop KP3505, Krups Drop KP350B and Delonghi Pixie clips EN126. This assessment is related to the average score of capsule machines in terms of convenience and wash time: the common perception that a capsule machine takes less time to wash than an automatic one has not been confirmed.

At the same time, the capsule machines are the leaders in terms of convenience and storage. They are much less fussy and take up less space than automatic machines. However, the instructions of capsule machines are less convenient than automatic machines. The manuals for them are often unclear or incomplete. Control panels of the tested capsule coffee machines, as experts’ opinions show, are also far from ideal.

Coffee machines

Delonghi Prima Donna Elite

Automatic machines produce the thickest crema.

The top three were Delonghi Prima Donna Elite Jura E8 Platina Siemens TE607203RW. The following capsule machines are at the bottom of the chart. During the test, we used milk of medium fat content, 1.5-2.5% we took it directly from the fridge where it was kept at 4 ° C in glass glasses . 71 °C is considered the correct crema temperature. Models that creamed at a higher temperature got lower ratings, because the milk in them could burn or boil.

Roskachestvo also presented a convenient summary table. It allows every consumer to filter the research parameters according to their personal importance and to choose a coffee machine taking into account all individual preferences.
