Ultra-fast and responsive – the first features of the EOS R3, Canon’s latest professional mirrorless sports and reportage camera

Canon has announced the development of the EOS R3, a high-speed, ultra-responsive mirrorless camera for professional reporters. Revolutionary new design lets professional sports and news photographers tackle the toughest challenges and exceed their own expectations. Combining the performance of Canon DSLRs and mirrorless cameras, the EOS R3 is a true hybrid camera of the future.

High quality at high speed

The EOS R3 is the first EOS camera featuring Canon’s latest development: a 35mm Back-Illuminated Multi-layer CMOS Sensor BSI . High-powered DIGIC X image processor lets professionals use the EOS R3 to take high-speed stills and movies at a new level. They’ll be able to shoot 30 frames per second with tracking AF/AE and minimal distortion in the frameii: it uses an electronic shutter, perfect for sports photographers who need to capture the action with split-second accuracy.

Accurate tracking of fast motion

Photographers can forget their creative urges: the EOS R3 will bring people and animals into sharp focus, even if they move quickly. Next-generation Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology tracks the subject’s eyes, head and body, allowing even the smallest details to be captured with confidence. Canon will also expand autofocus tracking capabilities – more details to follow.

Gaze autofocus control

EOS R3 will feature improved technology first seen in EOS 5. It will be the first EOS digital camera with the ability to control autofocus by looking through the viewfinder. Intuitive, fast AF point selection. Photographers looking to capture the most important and dynamic moments at an event, such as a press conference or a sports match, will find this new feature ideal.

Intelligent body design

Inspired by the EOS-1D series, the EOS R3 body provides intuitive operation even in the most difficult situations. Photographers can expect the same ruggedness, dust and water resistance as the legendary Canon EOS-1. A built-in extra battery pack, much loved by EOS-1D users, adds to the new camera’s affinity with this much-loved model. The EOS R3 gives you the confidence to shoot indoors or outdoors, at the stadium or the swimming pool, on sunny day or in snowy weather.

Fast file transfers thanks to Canon’s new Mobile File Transfer app

EOS R3 will be fully compatible with Mobile File Transfer smartphone app. It streamlines workflow, making it easy to transfer photos over the mobile network from any location, without the need for a wired connection.
