The Kid in a Million: Dishwasher Reviews

A dishwasher is not a luxury, but an indispensable appliance, like a refrigerator or a cooktop. But there isn’t always room in the kitchen for such appliances, and it can also be hard to install a dishwasher in a rental apartment or in a vacation home. Tabletop dishwashers, which can be easily transported with you from one home to another like a regular microwave oven, were invented especially for such cases.

WHAT THE LITTLE ONES KNOW HOW TO DO?

Compact, compact, under-sized, countertop, these are freestanding dishwashers, small in size – under 45cm high, 55cm wide and 52cm deep – ideal for compact kitchens. This appliance can wash up to 6 sets of dishes. The number of wash programs can range from four to six.

The most popular washing programs are Intensive 70°C, Normal 60-65°C, Eco 50°C, Quick 45°C and Delicate 40°C for glass . Their purpose is implied by their names. The list may be completed, depending on the model and brand of manufacturer, by the Soak, aka Pre-rinse and Rinse mode.

What class is your baby in??

The power consumption class of a dishwasher is determined by a test wash. The tests show how much energy is consumed for one set of dishes. Depending on the value of this indicator, the model is assigned one of energy consumption classes. A is the highest class and means minimal energy consumption, B is medium, and C is higher. Energy consumption per cycle” makes it possible to determine the energy consumption more precisely.

Despite its small size, compact machines in most cases have a high category of drying – A. This tells you that you should end up with clean and dry dishes. Class B means that a small amount of drips remains on the dishes after completion of work and they should be additionally wiped down.

And how much water does the machine use?? Most often the water consumption is indicated when working in normal or in economy mode. Models with water consumption under 15 liters per cycle are considered economic models with water consumption under 20 liters are considered average. However, even the most “voracious” models, which consume over 23 liters of water, waste less water per wash than a handwashing machine. Dishwasher saves up to 7,800 liters of water per year. This is a nice bonus for those who have had time to get a water meter.

THE NOISY BABES

Innovative technology allowed the creators to equip the dishwashing appliances with all kinds of sensors. Sensors detect the degree of impurity in the water and save both water and energy.

Load sensor detects the amount of dishes and ensures optimum water consumption. For an average water consumption of 7.5 liters per cycle the machine consumes 0.63 kWh of electricity.

Some small machines are able to recognize the type of detergent 3-in-1 function and, if it is a combined detergent, adjust the program accordingly.

Of course, almost all compact machines have a delayed start timer that allows you to program the process for the night, when there is a lower electricity bill.

CONVENIENCE, SAFETY AND INSTALLATION

Modern dishwashers are equipped with motors that keep the noise level between 55 and 48 dB, depending on the model, which is lower than the noise level during discussions. There are models whose noise level is even lower in night mode of operation. For example, some Bosch models do not sound louder than 40dB in night mode.

A leakage protection system is a set of technical devices designed to prevent the flooding of the room with water in the event of an accidental water leak in a household appliance or in the event of damage to the intake hose. In the event of a leak, the drain pump is activated and the water supply is blocked. Various manufacturers of household appliances have different names for this system: Aqua-Stop, Waterproof, Aqua-Safe, Aqua-Alarm.

A machine with a partial or full leakage protection must have a special tray in the bottom of the machine and a float with a micro-switch. Their presence allows to prevent water leaks in the machine itself. The whole modern army of dishwashers is equipped with such a system. Most inexpensive machines have no external leak protection.

A special design of the fill hose has been developed to increase reliability and emergency protection. The appliance store offers the hose as an optional extra. When selecting a machine, it is advisable to clarify what the specific manufacturer meant by the term “partial leakage protection”.

No special conditions for placing the dishwasher in the kitchen. One thing to keep in mind is that the appliance needs water and electricity, which means that it either needs to be placed as close as possible to the water mains and power supply, or the hoses and electric cable must be of a non-standard length.

When connecting the model, the first thing the master should conduct a special autonomous wiring, as well as install an outlet with grounding. The dishwasher is then connected to the water supply for cold or hot water intake and to the drain through a hose system.

WHAT TO CHOOSE FROM

The number of companies that put “small” appliances on the market is small.

Bosch has the largest collection of small dishwashers in the Active Water Smart series. There are currently 15 models in the series.

All Active Water Smart series appliances know how to handle glass with care, which means that delicate porcelain will be washed with “gentle machine hands.

The useful VarioSpeed function is used when dishes need to be washed quickly. VarioSpeed activates any of the standard programs, significantly speeding up the program and reducing the dishwasher’s running time by as much as 66% without compromising the quality of cleaning and drying.

The HygienePlus function holds the temperature at 70°C for 10 minutes during the final rinse, thus meeting the new European Union ISO EN15883-1 standards for professional detergents and disinfectants.

The company uses innovative drying technology with zeolite material. The secret lies in its natural ability – due to its porous structure to absorb moisture and release heat. At the end of the wash cycle, steam passes through a container where tiny zeolite balls absorb all the moisture, leaving only hot, dry air which then travels to other parts of the machine to dry dishes quickly.

Extra-dryer option, available as an option in the range, makes the dishes drier. But there are two “buts”. Extended drying time. Not suitable for fragile dishes.

Bosch gives the dishwashers an additional 10-year lifetime guarantee against rust-through for the washing chamber.

Electrolux small dishwashers range consists of 7 models with different number of programs from four to six , the noise level varies from 45dB to 56dB. All machines have high energy efficiency class A and high wash class A . Drying class B . This means that we can end up with dishes with only a few drops of water.

The programs include the following set of programs:

– The Quick 50°C program washes slightly soiled dishes in a flash.

– 70°C intensive washer – used for heavily soiled dishes pots, pans etc. . with long-lasting food scraps.

– Automatic 45-70°C program – the machine cleans at its own discretion and adjusts washing temperature depending on how dirty the dishes are. Many modern models independently determine the amount of dishes and the degree of their contamination with the help of special sensors.

– Eco 55°C – for slightly dirty dishes, t.k. It uses less electricity, saving up to 20%.

– Glass gentle 40°C – gentle glass washing program.

– Normal 65°C – used only by Electrolux ESF2210DW with 5 operating modes. It is an everyday dishwashing program.

– Rinse and wait – consists of simply rinsing the dishes in cold water and, thanks to the dishwasher hermeticity, remaining wet for long hours. This allows you to collect enough dishes for a basic wash.

Such brands as Indesit, Candy, Flavia, Wader and Korting also have a small representative in the range of dishwashing appliances.

Candy compact dishwasher in energy efficiency/washing/drying class meet the high level of A/A/A and consume little electricity and water per cycle. Available in two colors. The machine uses a condensation drying system – the dishes are poured with hot water, which evaporates, condenses on the body, drains and is removed through a special drain.

The model is equipped with a 3-in-1 function with a temperature of 60°C. As the additional characteristics of the manufacturer specifies: annual consumption of electricity – 138.6 kW h, the annual consumption of water – 1760 l. Candy saves more electricity per year than Wader and Indesit, consuming 174 kWh per year.

The Indesit consumes 9 liters of water per cycle at an energy consumption rate of 0.63 kWh. Like the Wader are “noisy” 55dB , but the most inexpensive. Like the previous Bosch and Electrolux models, it allows the hostess to collect enough dishes for a basic wash, with occasional cold water rinses. Similarly to the process of washing laundry, the dishwasher is called “soaking”, which best describes the process.

The Wader dishwasher is available in two colors: white and black, and is capable of running 6 programs. Noise level is not the lowest. But it has an energy efficiency class of A+, which means that it is highly energy efficient.

The Wader is equipped with a timer that delays the start of the washing process for up to 24 hours. This comfortable function allows you to directly start washing at a pre-set time, for example, at night.

The Kőrting tabletop dishwasher consumes 7 liters of water per cycle in economy mode at 55°C, with an energy consumption of 0.63 kW. This is the lowest rating of all the small machines presented see table for details .

The tabletop machine by Flavia, a brand that only produces dishwashing appliances, has 5 programs: Clock 50-65°C , Economy 55-70°C , Normal 60-70°C , Intensive 60-70°C , Fast 40°C. Energy efficiency class A+. Depending on the program, it consumes from 0.3 to 0.94 kWh of energy.
