Test toaster Kenwood TTM312

Toasters

Small appliances for the kitchen

ASKS: We like the possibility of making not only toasts but also sandwiches with toppings while dough is being cooked in this oven, and the fact that it has all the extras.

The quality of the received toasts and sandwiches is very good, and the ability to choose from the available modes and capacities leaves no doubt that after a few tries every user will find “his” mode. Safety awareness is a strong point, as is the great design.

Our experts especially praised the variety of toasts and fillings that can be prepared in this appliance and made it the winner in the BEST BREAKFAST category.

Disadvantages: The symbols on the buttons are not very clear.

Test results

DESIGN: The overall appearance is very stylish and attractive. Elongated housing with brushed stainless steel front plate – the trend of the past few seasons in a kind of “fashion toasters. At the same time the appearance of the device can bring a very subtle touch of “retro” style to the kitchen design: its slightly “beveled” shape, vertically placed buttons and especially flirty levers to adjust the width of compartments and lifting toast all together reminiscent of an old radio.

I also really liked the blue backlighting of modes – it looks very impressive against the gray steel. I must say that we noticed that there were some fingerprints on the surface, but they were hardly noticeable and were easily removed by wiping with a dry towel.

CONTROL PANEL: The electronic control panel is located on the right side of the body and includes buttons for “stop”, “cooking on 1 side”, “high power”, “low power”. On the side, there is a lift lever and a rotary knob which has a small complaint: the numbers representing the 10 modes are too small.

There is also an insignificant for long-term use and noticeable at first sight: the symbols on the buttons are not readily decipherable, we have repeatedly looked through the manual and checked it, what button stands for what.

THE FIRST TOAST: the test showed that the appliance differs from the others by the possibility to choose high and low power. For the mode we selected “6” on high power, the time to cook 2 toasts was 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Toasts fried almost evenly, only the bottom edges of both slices were a little “bumped” – they remained very light. We tried to make 1 toast, placed in the center and the toast came out perfectly: it crisped up very evenly. Note that the end of the preparation of the toaster notifies the gentle ringing – very nice!

DISCHARGE MODE: not available.

HEATING: the low power mode is very good for this case. The toaster heats up slowly, the food is not dried out at all. However, the manufacturer does not distinguish this feature as a separate mode.

BUNCH HEATING: there is no bun rack as such, but the sandwich stand replaces it to some extent. Using low power and this holder, it is quite possible to heat not only a sandwich, but also a croissant or a bun. The manufacturer insists on mandatory use of the sandwich cassette when making sandwiches with fillings.

TESTING FROM ONE HAND: There is a special button for this function. When selecting mode 6 at high power, the pieces are again not toasted perfectly evenly.

DETAILS: During the test we made sure that the body almost never heats up – safety is paramount. The toasting chamber itself is very convenient, its width can be adjusted from 2.5 to 5 cm. Includes special metal sandwich holder with plastic handles. Not only is it convenient for making toast and sandwiches, but it’s also convenient for serving them: the sandwich cassette unfolds like a double notebook sheet and produces a grill on which the toast rests very nicely.

A special smooth lever lets you lift not only standard sized ready-to-eat bread, but also small toasts high enough. You can also use the same lever during the cooking process to check how cooked the toast is. To make it easier to take out the sandwiches, the manufacturer has added tongs to the package – great!

INSTRUCTION: we face the case when there is no unity of form and content: in fact, everything is written well, a lot of attention is paid to safety, cooking tips, all the terms are explained clearly, but the language can not be called flawless. No, we were not expecting from the technical manual Pushkin’s syllable, but still the text is not decorated with maxims like this: “The toaster panel heats up a lot during the operation of the latter”.
