Sharp TVs: 70 on LCD panel glittering with gold

Sharp presents a new size of LCD TVs in America – 70 inches! But the road to market with a diagonal screen size equal to human height 177cm was not an easy one.

Sharp AQUOS LCD TV

In late 2007 and spring 2008, Japanese and Korean companies, which are co-owners of the plant 7-generation production of LCD panels, introduced in America, each its own model of 70-inch TV. The price of the Japanese model exceeded $60,000, while sales of the Korean model started at over $55,000.

Few people thought this price was fair and bought the novelty.

In autumn 2009 Sharp built in Japan the most modern plant for producing large 10th generation LCD panels with UV2A technology, which allowed Sharp to start selling 60″ TV sets at a much lower price than its 65″ model of 2006 at the beginning of 2010. Sales of 60-inch LCD TVs first began in North America, and by the end of 2010 – in Europe and America.

In Spring 2011 Sharp AQUOS QUATTRON, the first 70-inch LCD TV LC-70LE732U launched in the US and Canada for $3799.99 plus sales tax. The model has a frame rate of 120 Hz, American ATSC/NTSC tuners, is powered by American 110V/50 Hz and has a 1 year warranty.

Sales of large diagonal LCD TVs 60 inches and larger in North America have been very successful, with Sharp plans to sell more than one million such TVs in that region by the end of fiscal 2011.

Building on the success in the US, in February 2012 Sharp launches the first 70-inch model of a Sharp LCD TV in Europe and America.

“The screen area of a 70-inch diagonal LCD TV is staggering. It is three times larger than the screen area of a 40-inch TV! In 2012 it makes sense to move your 32 or 40 inch TV from the living room to another room and buy a modern 70 inch screen in the living room to watch high definition movies and games of the EURO 2012 championship on it,” says Alexander Sivolap, Product Marketing Manager of Sharp Electronics America.

    LCD panel

The LCD TVs of the new series feature an X-Gen panel manufactured with UV2A technology at Sharp’s 10th generation factory in Japan. LCD panels resolution – Full HD 1920×1080 .

    Scanning LED B/L

200 Hz scanning backlight to reduce crosstalk between left- and right-eye image fragments.

FRED Frame Rate Enhanced Driving technology makes it possible to drive LCD panel pixels at 200 Hz, using only one conductor per pixel instead of two. This approach increases panel aperture by 10% and halves the number of control chips.

    UV2A

Sharp applied a proprietary UV2A UltraViolet-induced Multidomain Vertical Alignment technology in the production of LCD panels for new TV series that allows liquid crystal molecules to be precisely aligned in the direction of UV radiation.

A unique feature of UV2A technology is the formation of a micro structure through a polymer film on the surface of the glass. Polymer chains that protrude above the surface can be photometrically aligned by UV.

With this knurled microstructure, the alignment of the liquid crystal molecules can be controlled with very high precision. This system allows you to adjust the angle of the liquid crystal molecules as small as two nanometers, with accuracy measured in picometers.

UV2A technology made it possible to create LCD panels

1 5,000:1 static contrast ratio, 60% higher than traditional LCD panels.

    2 transmitting 20% more light.

QUATTRON – four primary colors – RGBY

The essence of Quattron technology is to add a fourth yellow Y to the three primary colors RGB , which increases the number of subpixels by more than 30% from around 6 million to around 8 million 1920x1080x4 and therefore increases the color gamut, allowing for a more natural display of sparkling gold or Caribbean azure.

Yellow now becomes a primary color and no longer needs to be a combination of red and green.

The addition of a fourth, yellow sub-pixel significantly increases image brightness and reduces panel power consumption.

In order to allow an RGBY display to optimally display colors from an RGB source, the new TVs have an RGBY converter, which is an element of the LCD controller. This converter analyzes the input video signal in real time and automatically converts the yellow color information contained in the RGB-code source into RGBY-code display.

    FULL LED backlight

Full LED backlight gives a higher quality of picture thanks to the even placement of LEDs behind the screen plane.

    Sound

10 W x 2 left and right stereo speakers at the bottom of the case.

The proprietary Auto Volume Control system allows you to hear no volume variations when watching commercials, as well as when switching between channels or different signal sources.

Clear Voice increases the volume of the voice so that monologues and dialogues can be heard better.

The new series has an optical digital audio output for connecting an external amplifier receiver .
