Review of Panasonic Flagman inverter split-system

The “Flagman” line of split-systems is notable for their rich functionality and reasonable price. Integrated sensor system, fully automatic four-way airflow control, silent operation, ionizer – this is an incomplete list of the model’s features. If you add traditionally high reliability of Panasonic technique and thoughtful design you understand why it deserves your attention.

Design

The indoor unit comes in standard white. The model looks very dignified and neat. There is a gray stripe at the bottom of the housing, which not only adds a highlight to the image of the appliance, but is also the panel for lots of LED indicators. One more peculiarity of this range is a little constriction at the bottom of the block. If we talk about the design of the appliance in general, it looks very ascetic.

Design

The main feature of this line is the presence of special sensors, which, working together, can significantly improve the economics of the device and the comfort of the user. The sensor that monitors the presence of people in the room, as well as their activity, is located on the left side of the indoor unit. Photo-sensitive sensor on the right-hand side. ECONAVI and AUTOCOMFORT functions use information received from sensors to regulate operation parameters of split-system. This model has a mono-sensor detection with a 90-degree angle of view.

As the filtering elements are used standard air filters of mesh design. Basic air purification occurs through the use of a built-in ionization system, the NANOE-G.

A special generator located inside the enclosure generates particles containing negatively charged electrons and the tiniest water particles. When bacteria or viruses come into contact with them, they start a chemical reaction, as a result of which the microorganisms lose their dangerous properties and die.

According to studies, NANOE-G particles almost completely remove Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in room air in just 2.5 hours of operation. In addition to disinfecting the air, the technology will help get rid of any unpleasant odor. Moreover, the charged microparticles of NANOE-G can significantly reduce the growth of mold fungi on surfaces and remove them completely from the air in just 1.5 hours of operation.

The process of regulation of horizontal air stream direction is completely automated. All necessary settings can be changed directly from the remote control. Panasonic engineers treated elements of outdoor unit with special anti-corrosion coating Blue Fin to prolong its service life. Due to this it was possible to increase three times the predicted service life.

Functionality

ECONAVI and AUTOCOMFORT modes have much in common and use built-in activity and light sensors. ECONAVI mode is intended for power consumption reduction by means of cooling capacity regulation depending on different factors. If sensor detects human activity decline, air conditioner automatically reduces cooling capacity increases temperature to avoid wasting electric energy. Sensor is able to detect not only your presence but also your position in space. For example, if you are sitting comfortably on the sofa away from the window, the unit automatically adjusts the airflow direction to avoid unnecessary cooling of the empty space. In case of long absence of people in the premise the conditioner will automatically increase the target temperature in cooling mode for 2 degrees.

A special algorithm, called “Temperature wave”, saves even more energy. Its purpose is as though “deception” of human perception of temperature. Conditioner from time to time slightly increases temperature and then returns to the set value. You will not feel this increase. You can see the result of its work only when paying the bill.

The ECONAVI function makes extensive use of the ambient light sensor. Depending on a chosen mode the conditioner adjusts the productivity to avoid unnecessary electricity consumption. For example, in a cooling mode the device will raise the temperature by 1 degree by fixing the illumination level.

AUTOCOMFORT function has similar working algorithm to ECONAVI mode. The main difference is a slightly different graph of temperature and fan speed depending on human activity.

The sensor detects not only your presence but also your position in space. The Mild Dry Cooling feature ensures that the air is not dried out excessively when the appliance is in temperature-down mode. In this case, the humidity level will be 10% higher than in standard mode.

Split-system has two additional preset modes – Powerful and Quiet. The first one is recommended to be used when it is necessary to change quickly the temperature of air in the premise. In this case, the air conditioner will operate at its maximum capacity.

Quiet mode is topical at night or in the evening. When activated, the noise level of the indoor unit will be lowered as much as possible.

Button NANOE-G is responsible for the activation of the air purifying function. By default, the particle generator is automatically activated when the unit is started. However, you can also activate this mode without turning on the split system. In this case air conditioner will work in ventilation mode. All the same particles are used for cleaning of internal surfaces of unit and filters from viruses and impurities. This function is activated automatically when the air conditioner is shut down. But in case of need it can be switched off with remote control.

Control

Elongated remote control. Control and mode switching buttons occupy major part of the panel surface. Display is small and has a limited number of indicators. This feature is due to the fact that most of the indicators are specifically placed on the front of the unit. The control buttons for the timer are in a separate unit and have a violet tint.

The timer can be set within 24 hours ON/OFF timer . The position of the vertical louvres and the horizontal guide rail can be adjusted over a wide range a total of 6 positions, including auto mode .

Comfort and Care

To make it easier to service the outdoor unit, the top cover of the unit is made removable. In addition, the front panel of the indoor unit is also easy to detach from the unit, for later cleaning. A special self-cleaning algorithm of the indoor unit, which uses a fan to remove accumulated moisture, helps to avoid unpleasant odor.
