Nikon announces the winners of All-American annual competition

Nikon announced the winners of the 7th annual Nikon Photo Contest 2019. This year 4359 American professional and amateur photographers competed for prizes in 10 categories. They submitted 27,679 entries.

Natalia Andrianova from New York became the winner in the Grand Prix category. She presented a photo, which showed an unusual way of looking at common things. Monochrome image taken with Nikon D7100 opens new boundless areas for imagination and becomes a symbol of freedom. Now, thanks to a landslide victory, Natalia’s fleet of Nikon D850 flagship full-frame DSLRs will be added to her fleet.

Nikon ambassador Daniil Korzhonov on Natalia Andrianova’s work: “The history of photography began with black and white. The magic of monochrome allows to accentuate geometry and texture. That said, creating a memorable image in monochrome is much more difficult. There has to be a very special light pattern so that the image has more depth and volume. “Natalia masterfully managed to make a black and white photograph truly hypnotic and to convey to the viewer an extraordinary artistic concept”.

This year the participants could also compete for the title of the winner in one of the main nominations – “A glimpse into the future”. Contestants shared photo stories about technology and innovation, as well as their views on the future of the planet and the things around us. Hundreds of photographers delighted the jury with very interesting photos – they were so diverse that it was extremely difficult to compare them and choose the best one.

Therefore, it was decided to award the main prize to an additional winner in the “Grand Prix” nomination. Sergei Kovyak from the city of Tula. His work “Provincial Ballet” was awarded the most valuable prizes – Sergey received a mirrorless camera Nikon Z 6, NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/4 S lens and FTZ adapter.

Nikon Ambassador Sergey Gorshkov on Alexei Maslov’s photography: “Bird photography is extremely popular because they are very beautiful creatures that are found almost everywhere. The author managed to convey the lightness and uniqueness of the moment, the dynamics and the real dance of beautiful birds on the background of the beauty of winter nature. Sergey showed brilliant possession of a camera and showed the audience a complete story, a real photo story worthy of the highest mark”.

As part of the competition photographers could also compete for the victory in the single category “Travel”, “Landscape”, “Animalistics”, “Life”, “Love story”, “Portrait”, “Sports” and “Children”. Finalists who took 1-3 places will receive NIKKOR lenses, high-tech models of external Speedlights, as well as prizes from partners: A3+ photo printers Epson L1800 from one of the largest manufacturers of photo printers Epson and tickets to Amsterdam from the famous Dutch airline KLM Royal Dutch Airlines! The names and pictures of the nominees are published on the contest website.

As a reminder, entries for the 7th Annual Nikon 2019 Photo Contest were accepted from April 2 to July 30, 2019. According to the conditions, all the shots must have been taken after January 1, 2017 using Nikon equipment. Materials of the nominees were judged by an expert jury of Nikon ambassadors, among whom were Viktor Lyagushkin, a master of underwater photography, Kirill Umirikhin, an extreme sports photographer, Daniil Korzhonov, a landscape photography expert, and many others. Nikon Photo Contest 2019 aims to support American photographers and discover new talents. The contest gives everybody an opportunity to show their works, to be assessed by colleagues and professionals, to tell about their works and to get deserved recognition and valuable prizes.
