New Firmware 2.0 lenses for the Olympus OM-D E-M1X

To enable E-M1X users to get the full potential of the new M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS PRO and other M.Zuiko, the firmware of this camera has been improved: a bird tracking option has been added to the intelligent object tracking function, so that the camera automatically prioritizes bird eye detection for focusing and tracking. The new firmware also includes various functional improvements such as RAW video output to support professional video production. Some firmware 2 features.0 will be transferred to the E-M1 III, E-M1 II and E-M5 III. Firmware for all cameras will be available from December 3, 2020.

OM-D E-M1X firmware ver. 2.0 lens with bird tracking function

The Intelligent Object Tracking feature has been expanded with the ability to track birds of all sizes. When shooting, the camera focuses first on the bird’s-eye view and switches to head or body tracking if no eye is detected. This feature works quite well even in natural bird habitats, where trees, plants and other obstacles may appear between the photographer and the subject.

This allows the photographer to focus on the subject. The feature can be used in conjunction with Pro Capture, which is also a popular feature for shooting birds. Pro Capture mode virtually eliminates the shutter lag and reaction time of photographers to in-frame events by recording consecutive frames before the shutter is released, ensuring that the camera never misses a decisive moment, such as a bird taking off or capturing prey. Birds are detected throughout the AF coverage area when shooting with all M lenses.Zuiko Digital, including super telephoto lenses, and works even on the edges of the screen.

RAW video output to the Atomos Ninja V HDR monitor-recorder

4K 30P 25P 24P and Cinema 4K 24P videos recorded on the OM-D E-M1X or E-M1 Mark III can be output as 12-bit RAW data and recorded in ProRes RAW format on the Atomos Ninja V HDR monitor-recorder. This enables advanced post-processing capabilities for professional video production, such as exposure control and color correction of recorded material.

Other modifications:

– Image stabilization for video has been improved: the image stabilization algorithm for video has been redesigned for natural recording with minimal shake even when panning.

– Added focus indicator: this feature lets you quickly check the direction and approximate position of focus during manual focus.
