JBL Cinema 300/500 speakers

JBL’s distinctive Weave Design design, born of an unusual combination of cloth grilles and faceplates, was first introduced last year in the Studio One line. Those who noticed and appreciated the exterior of the Studio One, but could not for some reason afford full-size speakers, for example, because there simply is not enough space in the house for large speakers, will be happy to know that the American company prepared for the release two sets – Cinema 300 and Cinema 500.

Both sets consist of compact home theater speakers in 5.1, and the satellites are in the original Weave style. The sets are similar in composition, using the same active subwoofers and center speakers, but differ in surround sound satellites. The “senior” Cinema 500 system includes satellites equipped with two 75-mm bass/midrange speakers with proprietary PolyPlas membranes, manufactured by applying a polymer layer on a paper base. “Junior” system Cinema 300 makes do with more compact speakers equipped with a single PolyPlas MF/MF driver with a diameter of 75 mm. Other satellites are identical in design details. The upper range is voiced by a 25mm tweeter equipped with a titanium laminated dome. The crossover dividing point is at 3.7 kHz. To prevent the speakers from interfering with nearby electronics, all emitters are magnetically shielded. The closed box type and flat design of satellites makes them easy to hang on a wall, for which there are special wall mounts. Otherwise the speakers can be placed on the shelves, the necessary stands are also included. Plastic spring clips, traditional for this class of loudspeaker, are used to connect the satellites to the receiver.

The center speakers use the same set of drivers as the Cinema 500 satellites, so the latter set is the most advantageous, as all surround sound sources have the same sensitivity and are perfectly tonally matched.

The subwoofer Sub 140P takes up the woofer position in Cinema 300/500 sets. The body of the device is made in the form of a truncated tetrahedral pyramid, rounded top of the cabinet, the designers’ imagination gave a kind of crossed relief. A 150 watt amplifier is built in and the 200 mm woofer and reflex port are showcased below. The control panel of a subwoofer pleases with a decent range of settings: volume control, cut-off frequency 50-200 Hz , switches of phase polarity and power consumption mode On Auto . Sub 140P has a stereo line input and LFE input, bypassing the built in crossover circuit.

In conclusion it should be noted that the Cinema 300/500 speakers come with not only stands, but also all required connection cables with plenty of length and convenient color coding.
