HYUNDAI H-EP100, H-EP200, H-EP300 earphones: the invasion of ears

HYUNDAI H-EP100, H-EP200, H-EP300 headphones tested by me and 150 of my students. After all

since march of this year we are active, almost daily users of this equipment. Many headphone options have been tried over the months. It is one thing to listen to a bit of music for half an hour and quite another to wear headphones for almost the entire working day. It allows you to fully understand and begin to appreciate the comfort and convenience of carrying.

Testing Methodology

1. Microphone quality.

Since the presented range is a headset, we evaluated the quality of the microphone. All of my students participated in an open and unbiased vote.

2. Sound quality.

Following the standard scheme: we listened to different genres step by step, switching between the models for head-to-head comparison.

3. Convenience models.

All ears are different size and shape. So, besides me, all models were tried on by a girl with small ears.

Let’s take a look at the models presented as a whole.

All headphones are vacuum earmolds. The decision is questionable. Yes, it provides better acoustic attenuation and deeper bass. However, the price you pay for this is the comfort of wearing them for long periods of time. Perhaps a model with a regular fit would be in order. I think it would have found its consumer.

• Designed for sports and outdoor enthusiasts, as well as for the fashionistas. The design is really so “cool, youthful.”.

HYUNDAI H-EP300

• Top of the line. Calmer, more status-oriented design. Its top-of-the-line status is highlighted by a USB type C charging port, while other models offer micro USB as standard.

HYUNDAI H-EP100

The youngest model in the range. Despite it is the only one in fashionable white color.

The case is made of slightly roughened plastic, which is pleasant to the touch. Internal visible surfaces are matte, under the speakers themselves – glossy. The tactile feel of the case is nice. At the bottom in front of the case there are charge indicators. Lights up blue. The headphone indicators are blue-red. In the dark it looks like a Christmas tree.

Sound and microphone quality

Despite being the youngest model in the line, it delivers the most powerful bass of all the models. Smacks like a drum. You can feel the sound pressure and vibration. The bass does not grunt and does not choke. For fans of such effects HYUNDAI H-EP100 is simply the masthead. But such powerful bass imposes certain mark on overall sound. It is somewhat heavy. Although the midtones and the tops are also well worked out, the strong bass outweighs the. Some people like this sound, some do not. Just be aware of this when choosing.

If headset functionality is very important, you talk a lot or like me take an online class, HYUNDAI H-EP100 is not your best choice. Because of the layout and high positioning of the microphone the sound is muffled, “like in a barrel”. Interlocutors often say “did you put your phone on speakerphone”?

On the whole HYUNDAI H-EP100 has an awesome sound, clear, loud and deep due to the good bass.

Comfortable fit and carrying

In my big ear these headphones fit very well. You can run, jump and jump, they do not fall out.

They fit worse in a small woman’s ear. Too big. No, they hold well, but the catch, which is located on the edge of the headphone body, does not work fully.

When HYUNDAI H-EP100 in your ears, you feel comfortable. However, I wish the hooks were made of a softer material. This would greatly increase comfort for extended use, especially when worn with a hat or during physical activity.

HYUNDAI H-EP100 headphones are the only model in the line with touch buttons. It is a matter of taste. Any executive will tell you that feedback is very important. Sensors do not give it. Although they work well.

Bottom line

HYUNDAI H-EP100 are very good headphones. You can not say “entry level”. They play too well, especially for fans of bass. Its solid fit, nice materials and design are appealing. The main disadvantages are a little discomfort when worn for long periods of time, especially in small ears and the microphone.

This model is for those who want good sound at a low price and do not often use headphones in headset mode.

Price/performance ratio, powerful bass, beautiful design and nice materials.

“Ear hooks” it would be desirable a softer material, when used in headset mode the sound will be a bit like using “handsfree”.

HYUNDAI H-EP200

The focus audience of this model – athletes, probably young people in general.

HYUNDAI H-EP200 is equipped with earpieces. And the kit comes with interchangeable drums and red earpieces.

There is also a variant “without lugs”. You can choose according to taste or change to the image. Cool solution. Looking ahead I would say that if the complete set had more black earphones, these headphones would not be worth the price. Black would take away the “pops, sportiness, stylishness” of these headphones, making them “ordinary”. I think that the green and red colors might scare some customers away. And so, with black – to work in the office in a suit, with green – in the evening to party or work out.

But anyway, the interchangeable color elements are a nice bonus!

The HYUNDAI H-EP200 case is big enough, it looks like a powder box. Covered with pleasant to the touch, slightly soft, matte black plastic.

Internal surfaces are matte plastic. It may not be the most beautiful but it is the most practical and durable. As HYUNDAI H-EP100 has the charge indicator on the bottom of the case, it glows blue, but not so bright.

There are no questions about the build quality.

The controls are mechanical buttons with excellent feedback. You know exactly when you pushed the button and when you didn’t.

Sound and microphone quality

The HYUNDAI H-EP200 drivers have 2 times more impedance than HYUNDAI H-EP100.

Which in theory means these headphones should play a little louder and better. In practice the bass is less, but it is of high quality.

No big difference in maximum volume or mid/high frequencies playback. They also play great. But due to the more correct, not overloaded bass, the sound feels more balanced, collected.

The microphone works fine. In HYUNDAI H-EP200 you can easily have a casual conversation, chat with your friends and use them for entertainment.d. No feeling of a “tube”.

So HYUNDAI H-EP200 has a very good, harmonious and well assembled sound with enough but not excessive bass.

Comfortable fit and wearing

HYUNDAI H-EP200 has no competitors because of the firm seating. By the way they are made of soft material, easy to bend and adapt to the shape of your head and ears. As for comfort, if you, like me, have never worn glasses, at first the feeling may be a little unusual. In about 15 minutes they go away and you forget these headphones are in your ears. The fit is excellent in both big and small ears.

If you are not confused by the size, then in terms of fit – this is the best headphones in the line. Both in terms of comfort and reliability of fit in the ear.

Jump, run, stand on your head, HYUNDAI H-EP200 headphones can handle it all.

If you do not want such a secure fit or just do not like the earhooks, you can remove them.

In this configuration this model is more comfortable than H-EP100, but the fit is less reliable. In any case, the choice is up to the consumer, and this is always a plus.

Bottom line

HYUNDAI H-EP200 headphones are very balanced model. Yes, they are sporty and youthful by design. But besides style provide harmonious sound combined with a comfortable and firm fit. And what else do you need??

Good, well balanced sound, the ability to remove the earplugs and get regular earmolds, cool design with interchangeable colored elements. Longest battery life in the line.

Case dimensions.

HYUNDAI H-EP300

Top of the line model.

Design already like a classic modern headphone. Everything hints at the fact that this is a premium model – USB type C port and the fact that the brand name is not simply printed on the case, but placed on the gold-plated glitter plate.

The outer part of the case is covered with black pleasant material, the inner visible part is matte, under the headphones is plastic. The headphones themselves also have half glossy, half matte plastic.

The golden circle on the headphone is a mechanical button. The clicks are quite stiff. The moment of pressing can be felt clearly. Under the bottom of the button there are light indicators. As with the other models in the line, they can glow blue and red.

Charging indicators are green, located on the back of the case. They look richer than the blue ones in other models.

Sound and microphone quality

HYUNDAI H-EP300 has less bass than comparable models due to the smaller diaphragm diameter. But it does not bang on the brain.

The maximum volume is also lower than in HYUNDAI H-EP100 and HYUNDAI H-EP200.

Nevertheless the HYUNDAI H-EP300 overall sound is good. It’s light, not pushy. Songs with lots of vocals and in general medium/high end come in particularly well. Due to the slightly muffled bass they sound very clean.

HYUNDAI H-EP300 has the best microphone in the line. Considering the character of sound the headphone is ideal for those, who talk a lot through earphones.

Comfortable fit and wearing

HYUNDAI H-EP300 fit on small ears perfectly. In the case of my locators, a little short on the depth to which the ear drum goes into the ear.

Seats the headphones tightly, do not fly out. But sometimes it happens that “depressurize”. Despite this fact you can hardly feel HYUNDAI H-EP300 both for short and long term wear. They are lightweight, do not stretch on the ear, not pressing against it, do not embrace like HYUNDAI H-EP200. No inconvenience to wear a hat or mask.

Result

Headphones HYUNDAI H-EP300 – “business model” with a good microphone, light unobtrusive sound, beautiful case and the headphones themselves. Among all models in the lineup HYUNDAIH-EP300 is the most intact, even when worn for long periods of time.

The most premium appearance and design in the line, good microphone, balanced “light” sound.

Bass may be weak for some.

A few words about the whole headphone

We did not describe the battery life and reception range for each model.

• All of the headphones have a battery life close to what is stated and vary only by volume/reception quality, etc.d. Singling out some model because it lasts a few minutes longer is not our approach.
• As for the reception range, all have about the same. In a city where there is a lot of interference, it is about 8-9 meters. But to walk around the apartment without the phone is not possible. The headphones penetrate the wall through 10 cm, but they start to flicker occasionally.

Conclusion

In the end we have quite economical and balanced range of headphones.

Each model has its own weaknesses and strengths. So there will be their customers.

The financial difference between the models is rather modest – HYUNDAI H-EP300 is only 1/3 or 500 Dollars more than the standard model. More expensive than HYUNDAI H-EP100.

This means that HYUNDAI gives consumers a choice not according to their wallet, but according to the desired characteristics.
