How to Connect a Dishwasher?

In order for a dishwasher to work flawlessly in the long term, it has to be connected correctly. Dishwashers are available as built-in e.g. in a kitchen unit or freestanding versions.

On an example of the dishwasher firm Bosch model SRV55T13EU fig. 1 consider a method of simple connection, which can be used universally – in the city and in the countryside, taking into account some of the features of one or the other connection discussed in the article.

You can connect the machines with your own hands, following the recommended way performing the working operations in the following sequence:

  • Inspection of appearance upon receipt delivery
  • Install the dishwasher in the chosen location close to the water supply and drain
  • Connecting to the sewage drain system with a drainage hose
  • Connection to centralized water supply in the village to the water circuit
  • connection from the 220 V light mains with grounding loop and a separate fuse-automatic 10-13 A. Automatic fuse-switch see “Automatic fuse-switch” . Fig. 2 should be triggered by leakage current and have the corresponding marking on the body.

Since the dishwasher has a high operating power of up to 2.3 kW, it is connected to a specially grounded power socket see Fig. Rice. 3 i 4 .

Bosch SRV55T13EU has an automatic solenoid valve, which is controlled by the central processor of the machine, letting the water from the water supply to the working chamber and to the heating element heating element .

Fully installed appliances

Fig. 8. Illustration of how to connect the water inlet hose to the electromagnetic valve

The mating piece to this must have an external thread diameter of 26.4 mm see Table 7 and Table 8 . Fig. 8 .

This valve has a special feature: there are connecting wires inside the supply hose 2,5 m behind the dishwasher .

Typically, an underwater hose with a solenoid valve is connected to the cold water supply. Nevertheless, it is useful to know that this solenoid valve is designed for water temperature +25
+70 Âș C, and that at an input temperature of +60 Âș C, the washing machine will run less per wash – due to no time consumption for heating water by the heating element in the working chamber, and at temperatures below +60 Âș C – more see Fig. Table. 1 at the end of the article .

The dishwashing machine’s internal heating element heating element provides a water temperature of up to +65ÂșC in the dishwashing chamber depending on the program selected .

Dishwasher may also operate in semi-automatic mode if not equipped with Aqua-Stop solenoid valve, if water pressure in water circuit is low less than 0,5 bar , if water flows into the machine by gravity rustic version . In the last example, the water supply is controlled manually by opening/closing the water tap.

If the water pressure is insufficient or if there is no water flow at all, the “Check water supply” segment on the display is lit. It can be in the following cases:

  • the water tap is closed
  • The water supply to the apartment has been disconnected
  • The flexible water inlet hose of the water circuit is excessively kinked
  • The filter in the solenoid valve is clogged fig. 9 .

Built-in dishwashers

Fig. 9. View of the built-in filter in the solenoid valve

In order to locate the malfunction it is necessary to disconnect the dishwasher power supply, turn off the water supply, unscrew the solenoid valve at the point of connection with the water supply hose from the apartment house circuit, remove the filter from the Aqua-Stop solenoid valve and clean it. Then reinstall everything in reverse order, connect water and power to the dishwasher.

Warning, it is important!

Never cut this hose or immerse the plastic solenoid valve body in water.

To avoid electrical failure and leaks, route the inlet and drain lines so that the hoses do not kink and are not adjacent to heating elements. It is best to mask these technical communications firmly with plastic “false panels” to prevent even the unlikely exposure to children or pets.

If the dishwasher is installed in the country and operates in conditions of temperature fluctuations, make sure that after operation there is no water inside the working chamber and in the hoses both inlet and drain so as not to freeze in winter .

To drain off residual water – close the water tap shut off the inlet circuit , disconnect the supply hose and let the water drain off. This keeps the dishwasher safe for you and your dishwasher for a long time.

Some technical data and installation requirements

  • 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz supply voltage for the solenoid valve
  • power consumption 2.3 kW
  • Minimum water pressure in the incoming circuit 0.5 bar 0.05 MPa
  • Maximum water pressure 10 bar 1 MPa
  • If there is an increased hydraulic pressure, an additional pressure reducing valve must be installed before the valve or the solenoid valve
  • A minimum water flow of 10 litres per minute.

Let’s look at the connection of underwater inlet and outlet drain hoses to the dishwasher one by one.

Installing the dishwasher

Connecting the underwater inlet hose to the drainage system

On the water pipe side, the connection is threaded, using an adapter hose, as shown in fig. 10.

Fig. 11 shows the connection types and dimensions of some fittings for the underwater hose and the discharge hose.

Using the parts provided, connect and secure the supply hose to the water tap make sure that the fresh water supply hose is not kinked or crushed.

Connecting the drain hose to the drainage system

The drain valve adapter connected with a crimping clamp has an outer diameter of 22 mm see the Technical Data of the dishwasher . rice.11 the dimensions are similar to the output of all types of automatic dishwashers and washing machines manufactured after 2000.

To connect the water outlet from the dishwasher, install a standard siphon with a drain pipe and outlet under the sink see. Fig. 12 i 13 .

Warning, it is important!

Press the on/off button once to display the duration in minutes of the program you have selected.

Disconnect it in the same way, after the display shows “0”. There is another important nuance of controlling the program.

If during the program running, both buttons marked Reset are pressed simultaneously and held for 3 seconds, the dishwashing program will stop, the “0” symbol will appear on the information display and after another minute of program suspension the dishwasher can be completely turned off.

This way is suitable for stopping the program, adding dishes, in case of breakdown of power supply and the need to change the program parameters.

The table makes all the difference

There is a certain amount of detergent and electricity consumption recommended by the manufacturer, depending on the set programmed dishwashing program. This information is shown in Tables 6 and 7. 1.

To connect a dishwasher, follow these steps:

      1. Turn off the power and water supply to the dishwasher.
      2. Locate the water inlet on the dishwasher and connect one end of a water supply hose to it.
      3. Connect the other end of the water supply hose to the water supply valve under the sink.
      4. If your dishwasher requires a drain hose, connect one end to the dishwasher drain outlet and the other end to the sink drain or a garbage disposal.
      5. Securely attach the hoses with hose clamps or other connectors to avoid leaks.
      6. Check if the dishwasher has an electrical cord or requires hardwiring. If it has a cord, plug it into a nearby electrical outlet. If hardwired, consult an electrician to connect it properly.
      7. Carefully push the dishwasher into its designated space, ensuring it is properly aligned and leveled.
      8. Make sure the water and power supply are turned on.
      9. Test the dishwasher by running a short cycle to check for any leaks or issues.
      10. Adjust the dishwasher’s leveling feet if necessary.

Remember to consult your dishwasher’s manual for specific instructions and safety precautions.
