– Verticals are popular in Europe?
Evgenia Suzdaleva – marketing and product manager Brandt: Washing machines with vertical load in Europe, as well as in America, is a fairly narrow market segment, the percentage of which has not changed over the past few years.
Verticals always had and use though low, but stable demand. The Reason of it – space limitation, aspiration of the buyer to economy of place plus possibility to receive the modern device with functions and loading, as at front full-sized machines.
– Is it realistic to count on the fact that vertical machines will soon be able to wash not 7kg, but more?
i. Kalinina, Marketing Director of Miele CIS LLC: This is possible by increasing the size of the drum and, consequently, the size of the appliance itself. In this case the vertical machine will lose its main advantage: compactness. But it will have one drawback: the laundry especially large items will be inconvenient to get through the narrow window in the top of the drum. This does not apply to machines of the activator type. But the latter also have their own advantages and disadvantages.
Sergey O, Brandt Service Director: it is realistic, as far as the demand is realistic. There are no technical restrictions. Even now there are washers, designed for 10 kg for example, Mabe LMR1083 .
But, of course, the size of the machine will change, because an increase in the loading will affect the size of the drum and tank, change the system of counterweights and the design of the housing.
– Why aren’t there any dryers in the collections of manufacturers suitable for upright washing machines??
k. Burmistrov, Product Manager at Ardo: Washing machines with vertical loads are designed to save space. Together with the standing next to the dryer, they will take up more space than the column-mounted models.
i. Kalinina, marketing director of Miele CIS: There are at least two reasons. Vertical machines have very compact sizes, hence, they have a small drum volume. It is known that for efficient drying, the volume of the drum should be substantially larger than the volume of laundry.
The second reason is rather economic. What is the ratio of demand between upright washing machines and potentially upright dryers? Although, I will assume that technically this task is feasible.
– Why do not spinning machines use the maximum spinning speed of today??
Ruslan Cherkasov, Whirlpool trainer: high spin speed is not the most important factor when choosing a washing machine, because at higher speeds the fabric wears down much more. If we wash silk or wool, then the spin will maximum 600 rpm, and for synthetics – 900 rpm.
Additionally at high revolutions noise and vibration are produced which causes deterioration of parts. To eliminate this point, the manufacturer puts new shock absorbers, bearings, and this leads to an increase in the cost of the washing machine.
– Why vertical-loading washing machines rely mostly on housing leakage protection?
Sergey O, the director on service of Brandt: In our models there is no protection against water leakage as such. The construction of the machine is so clever technically that there is basically a “mathematical” electronic protection. That is, if there is a hole in the tank through which the water begins to escape, a water level sensor is triggered. Electronic control module understands that the water disappears through the drain pump and blocks the machine itself, and the water no longer flows into the tank.
As for the leakage protection on the enclosure. When the washer draws powder from the dispenser mounted on the lid, there is a risk of water splashing out through the loading hatch. Therefore, to avoid unpleasant situation on the loading lid there are stiffeners, which rest against the rubber gasket. And the water can not run out. This is standard technology, not protection in the usual sense.

Why have verticals always been in low but stable demand when it comes to clean laundry? Is there a specific reason why they are not as popular as other laundry methods?
