Choosing your kitchen. Its own current in design

The stylistics of the modern kitchen is the use of clearly established design trends and a bold mixture of their techniques, which is called eclecticism. Among these main currents we can distinguish three:

Choosing your kitchen. Its current

1. RETRO is a well known style, which was formed in the 50-60s of the last century and was associated with a leap in the development of industry. Man has learned to make better use of the possibilities of metal, the first polymers appeared. That’s when interest was aroused in a new, unusual material plastic that combined volume, fluidity and did not hide its technical origins. We owe this period to a new, respectful look at stainless steel. People saw that it was not only practical, but also beautiful. It was then that the rounded-bottom cars appeared, including the ugly Zaporozhets, and stylish Zilov fridges. This style has managed to absorb the fact that so delighted the then population of the earth – the passion for new cars and, of course, the first space flight in history. Therefore, the space theme is reflected in the design of things. In today’s furniture, retro takes a modest place, experts use only some of the motives of this spectacular style.

2. The leader in terms of designer interest is Hi-Tech, another product of the last century. This style also tends to ostentatious technicalism, but uses its own language and forms. Its main passion is to fully realize the achievements of progress. The style was developing rapidly, at the same time adding new findings, but, as before, it combined the rational approach to functionality and beauty. Actively embodied the most modern developments for convenience: for example, in the furniture of this style were the first to appear gigantic drawers up to a meter wide and more, able to contain a bunch of things in its depths, while it became easier to find them. This style is very formal, it focuses on the perfect geometry of furniture, simplicity, flat planes, absence of excesses… In Hi-Tech, great attention is paid to materials, with stainless steel, aluminum, and glass being the first. This is a rather expensive style, and the highest quality of work is of paramount importance in it. It is interesting that for furniture of this direction learned to use the most diverse species of wood – from classical to exotic.

3. Another “sign” of our time is MINIMALISM. It belongs to the high design, not always accessible to “ordinary mortals”, as it is mostly engaged in designers with an international reputation and the appropriate assessment of their work, and also because not every person is able to live surrounded by objects in this cold, detached style. Minimalism, as its name already suggests, is outwardly very stingy. It does not use any decorative elements, trying to make do with its modest resources on the presentation of materials, the search for new textures. It tends to hide everything that is possible from view. Likes the simplest forms and a small range of colors. Clear gradation of modern styles doesn’t stop designers in their search which often leads to borrowing of techniques, elements and materials – we get bold, non-trivial solutions which are so greedy for modern sophisticated buyers.

The shape

Modern design has managed to take a new look at the form, allowing customers to choose both more traditional proportions, typical of classical style, and innovative, not used before. Among them, especially impressive look large cabinets and cabinets, whose width significantly exceeds the height. As we have said, the functionality of furniture is now more relevant than ever, and it is these volumes prove to be the most practical in daily use.

Drawers and pull-outs can hold up to 100 kg of weight. They are becoming more and more important and are often the only cabinets suitable for storage, especially in minimalist kitchens. Hinged cabinets swing upwards, and the fittings and mechanics are constantly being improved, making them safer and more comfortable. The modern kitchen pays a lot of attention to elements called columns.

These are tall cabinets designed for built-in refrigerators, ovens, microwave ovens and coffee machines, with large spacious sections for things and products. They are equipped with interesting elements – pull-out and swing-out baskets, compartment and swing-out doors that go behind the sides.

Materials

Designers treat familiar materials with respect and interest, trying to find something new in them. For example, one of the classics – oak – is used in a completely new version – gray, natural and stained with a matte surface. Developments in woodworking technology have allowed the list to include species that have not attracted so much attention before – these are exotics, expensive and sometimes difficult to work with.

It’s now possible to get the finest veneer to cover the fronts, not only straight, but also curved. But wood can be replaced by imitation – a plastic with a pattern imitating its pattern. In general, polymers find the widest use. Designers began to be interested in combining surfaces with a matte and glossy finish. In this case they use several layers of lacquer up to 7 or a specially sprayed plastic, which makes the surface transparent and very shiny.

Glass is no longer just used for stained glass windows it’s become the main material for fronts. It is coated with several layers of paint, giving the doors a deep color, which is hidden under a shiny layer of glass. Aprons and worktops made of this material are now available, creating a festive, lightweight look in the interior.

Natural stone has not been forgotten, and the processing of its edges sometimes amazes, as if we’re looking at a chipped slab.

Layout features

First of all, are dictated by convenience. The space looks uncluttered and uncluttered.

Everything in the kitchen should be within easy reach, so countertops are low so you can reach into the kitchen with your hand outstretched. Drawers and pull-outs are the most common forms of countertops.

Some collections suggest moving the storage center from floor units to columns, making them huge, literally the entire wall.

● More attention is paid to shelves, as they can become an alternative to hinged groups. Designers are not embarrassed by their low capacity, there are spacious drawers for things and products.

An island is a very convenient invention, but it is actively used ● More attention is paid to shelves and drawers. It can be equipped with a raised cocktail area with a higher table top.

The space of the apron is filled not only with rails, here can be placed lighting equipment, mini niches for small items, blocks with containers for bulk products or spices.

● Minimalism often eschews hinged cabinets in favor of imposing floor units and columns.
