Canon patents new ND electronic filter adapter.

According to the patent Canon is working on a new adapter, which will contain a neutral density electronic filter.

Mirrorless Cameras

The ND electronic filter is based on liquid crystal elements that can adjust the density of the filter by varying the voltage applied to these elements.

One of the advantages of such a filter is the ability to quickly change the amount of light hitting the cameraā€™s sensor, eliminating the adjustment of the aperture and eliminating the noise of the blades when it opens and closes. It would be most in demand when shooting video. Therefore, it is more than likely that we can expect this technology to be implemented in Canonā€™s Cinema EOS series of cameras
