Alexey Myakishev: photos are like pigeons – shot and released..

Alexey was talking, and I tried not to interrupt him. I think it is also important for readers to listen to his unhurried narration, without being distracted by my questions. I suggested starting at the very beginning. Alexey agreed. A story in the first person.

“Vyatka has never been without bright photographers-artists. Sergey Lobovikov. In Soviet times – Mikhail Perevoshchikov, Nikolai Zykov, in the 90s – Vladimir Pokryshkin, Alexey Myakishev, Evgeny Samarin. All of them took marvelous reportage photos, and in them they conveyed all the peculiarities of their outback. It’s sad that these names are not given the importance they deserve.

There is more artistry in works of Vyatka photographers than, for example, in photos of Muscovites. One can sense that New York photography imitates Western style and makes extensive use of computers. There is more sincerity, liveliness, and involvement with nature in the Vyatka photographs. In this case a certain artistic illiteracy was a plus, a kind of style.”

From the Internet interview with the photographer Sergey Isakov lives in Paris .

Interesting analogy, Alexey. Just curious, why do you think photos are comparable to pigeons in this regard? Is it because they capture a moment and then fly away, leaving an imprint of memories? Or is there another aspect to it? I’d love to hear your thoughts on why you made this comparison.
