Air conditioners ask for a calculation

If you have a task of air-conditioning of a multi room apartment or office you have several variants. But to begin with you need to do the necessary calculations. The more exactly they will be, the more reasonable you will spend your money for purchase of cooling equipment.

Climatic equipment

Variant 1 – several split-systems

The simplest option is to buy a Split-system for each room. Many people do so – very often we can see several outside blocks on the balcony on the wall of one apartment.

+ It is easy to calculate, because the choice of air conditioner is reduced to choice of power depending on the area of a room here we will not consider the price and brand .

+ Getting an air conditioner in every room, you can regulate the air parameters in each room individually.

+ Such variant allows distributing of monetary expenses by time – you install, for example, one conditioner, and later, if you have money, another one, the third one..

DISADVANTAGES

As practice shows that when you buy a third air conditioner the total cost will exceed the cost of multisystem, designed for air-conditioning of three rooms.

With buying every new air-conditioner you will have to pay for installation, and as we know the price for competent installation is a pretty big sum.

Each new Split-system will bring us new outer unit. If, for example, you put hang out it on the balcony, then with each new block the general noise level will increase and the appearance of the house will worsen.

EXPERIENCE OF SPECIALIST: if you are going to equip more than two rooms with conditioner, it makes sense to think about buying multi-split-system.

Variant 2 – multi-split-system

Multi-split-system is a professional solution for air-conditioning of a multi-room apartment, consequently the material expenses are relatively reduced and the comfort level is increased for example, less noise from outside unit .

+ You get a system whose operation is configured and coordinated for a multi-room space.

+ The cost of such decision in case of purchase of three units is less than in case of purchase of three Split-systems.

+ Delivery and installation costs are a one-time fee.

– Provision of air conditioning of multisplit room is very expensive all at once.

– In case of failure of one of the indoor units or outdoor unit the whole system is blocked.

– Not all systems allow you to change the air parameters independently for each of the rooms.

Option 3 – Ducted split system

Canal split-systems found their place both in offices and in multicomplex apartments. One internal unit is installed and air delivery to each room is performed with the help of ducts system scattered around the rooms. And still due to peculiarities of this system about which more detailed description is given below a channel conditioner is more often installed in offices than in the apartments.

As we said above, the installation of a ducted air conditioner requires a suspended ceiling of about 40 cm width to place the indoor unit it is enough to make only a local increase in width, or “hide” the indoor unit in a dark room, closet, etc. . d. and a width of about 15 cm for the ducts. An obvious disadvantage is that installation of a channel type air conditioner requires a false ceiling, and in premise with initially low ceiling, it is prohibited to reduce the height of the premise.

However, in some cases you can do without a false ceiling if you can hide the air ducts in a different way. For example, if the inter-room partitions are made of plasterboard, it is possible to draw air ducts between the boards.

CALCULATION OF AIR CONDITIONER CAPACITY

Household appliances

OUR OBJECT: a studio apartment with a living area of 20 sq m, minus the size of the WC, checkroom and corridor. m. We shall note at once that rough power calculation can be done so: 1 kW per each 10 sq.m. m of floor space. Thus it becomes clear that capacity of the conditioner for our object will be about 2 kW.

FACTOR 1 – VOLUME OF THE ROOM AND ORIENTATION OF THE WINDOWS. The area of air-conditioned premise is equal to 20 sq.m. m, and the ceiling height is 2,65 m, so the volume of this room is V = 53 cubic. m. The more sun is in your apartment, the more powerful air conditioner must be to eliminate the heat radiated by the sun. We will take solar heat into account by means of the coefficient q which simplified varies from 30 W/cub. m. there is hardly any sunshine in the room to 40 W/kW. m sunny side . In our case the windows of the apartment face west, so the sun is in the apartment in the afternoon. Let’s take the average value of the factor, which is q=35 W. Thus, the first component of the required power is equal to: Q1 = V x q = 53 x 35 = 1855 W

FACTOR 2 – NUMBER OF PEOPLE BEING IN THE PREMISE. It is assumed that one person emits about 100-150 W. In our case it is assumed that two people will live in the apartment, consequently, the allocated energy will be: Q2 = 100×2 = 200 W

FACTOR 3 – HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES. Roughly speaking, these appliances convert about 30% of the power they consume into heat. Since a studio combines a bedroom, a study, a living room, a kitchen and a dining room, we are dealing with a whole set of appliances.

The first group, the “office” group, includes a computer about 300W , a printer, a desk lamp, etc. d. TV set 300W and tape recorder. Let us assume the contribution of this group to be 500 W.

The second group, the “kitchen” group, is the hottest, because very powerful appliances will be installed there: stove 700W , oven 700W , microwave oven, kettle, etc. d. Since it is unlikely that all appliances will be switched on at the same time, we will put the contribution of this group equal to 1000 W. So the average energy absorbed by the appliances will be: Q3 = 1500 W

CALCULATION. Summing up all heat inputs Q1, Q2 and Q3 , we get: Q = Q1 + Q2 + Q3 = 1855 + 200 + 1500 = 3.5 kW. Note that if you are not going to cook while watching TV and working on the computer, the thermal input from appliances can be reduced to Q3 = 700-1000 W. Then you are satisfied with the air conditioner with power of 2,6 kilowatt.

SUMMARY: it is necessary to choose “a golden mean”, because at the lack of capacity a conditioner will work in a limiting mode, that will lead to a fast wear and tear, at overpayment of capacity you will overpay a decent sum, because the difference in price between a conditioner with 2,6 kW and 3,5 kW is rather great.
