Zyxel’s new access point improves WiFi quality in outdoor public spaces

Providing high quality WiFi access in public outdoor areas is significantly complicated by unpredictable weather and high density of wireless client devices. To solve this problem and give all users a high-speed connection whether they are indoors or outdoors, Zyxel Communications has released a weatherproof universal access point.

Smart antennas eliminate the effects of interference

The main secret to the efficiency of Zyxel’s new device is the use of SU-MIMO smart antennas.

“Unlike most other outdoor access points, ours uses a smart antenna that is able to adapt to changes in the outdoor environment instead of external antennas and is little affected by the directional angle,” said Wu. – For example, if a bus or trailer stops between the access point and the client device, it will almost completely shield its transmitter signal. However, when the WAC6552D-S is used as an access point, it will automatically change its signal pattern to accommodate this new obstacle, resulting in excellent wireless performance.

“This means that visitors to such locations will always enjoy a high-speed, reliable connection, making their vacation even more fun. We all know how important Internet connectivity is to all aspects of our lives, and when travelers are assured that they always have access to email, online banking and other services, they will be less worried about whether everything is okay at home.”.

This antenna also uses innovative Zyxel technology, which makes the device immune to overlapping signals. This happens when multiple access points are operating on the same channel, causing a drop in wireless network performance.

The WAC6552D-S housing is IP67-rated, which means the access point can even operate in highly contaminated environments, during heavy rain or freezing temperatures. This is one of the most affordable outdoor access points with an enclosure that offers IP67 protection.

Compact 255 x 256 mm housing only 62 mm thick access point with Gigabit Ethernet port and console port. The access point uses the 802 standard.11ac and Zyxel’s proprietary RF-first approach to deliver wireless speeds of up to 300 and 866 Mbps in bands 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz respectively.

Price and availability

Sales of the WAC6552D-S in America will begin Dec. 1, 2018.
