X-Lock is the easiest tool changing system for angle grinders

X-Lock is the revolutionary, easiest tool changing solution on the market from Bosch. Now you can change tooling in seconds, up to 5 times faster and much easier due to the absence of parts that you can lose, such as: clamping nuts, flanges and keys. Fit the tool with the X-Lock fastener, press it, and you’re ready to go! A click will tell you that the tooling is properly and securely attached. To release a disc, simply release it with the lever: jammed discs are a thing of the past.

One system, many advantages

Bosch has gone through several phases of development in quick tool change systems, introducing the SDS plus and SDS max standards for drills, T-tips for jigsaws and Starlock for oscillating saws in cooperation with Fein.

The new X-Lock system has no jam nut protruding over the disc surface, so there is no possibility of damaging the workpiece during roughing. Furthermore, the geometry of the X-Lock housing eliminates the possibility of incorrectly fitting accessories for which the direction of rotation is important, such as diamond cutting discs.

Comprehensive range of models for all possible applications

Bosch offers a complete range of X-Lock accessories – more than 130 items. For metalworking, craftsmen can choose from a wide range of cutting, sanding, fibre, flap and fleece SCM discs, cups and brushes. Diamond cutting blades, diamond dry bits and diamond cutters are available for stone, concrete or ceramic work. In addition, a carbide-tipped wood cutting disc is available for cutting wood, plastics, composites or drywall. Virtually all X-Lock accessories can also be used on conventional power tools. Exception to the “dry” diamond core bits, cups and brushes: they are threaded on conventional grinding machines.

Advanced safety and protection for professionals

The X-Lock impact wielding machine offers the user a high level of protection. This includes features such as “Drop Control” and “KickBack Control”. “Drop Control” disables the tool after a fall, and “KickBack Control” triggers if the disc locks unexpectedly. Some of the X-Lock-equipped models have a “Deadman’s switch” and an overrun brake that stops the disc within a second after you turn it off. There is also a version with soft start, unintentional start protection and an additional anti-vibration handle.

Availability

Bosch’s X-Lock power grinder with a full range of tooling will be available on the market starting September 25, 2019. Consumers will have six small X-Lock power tools available: from 900 to 1900 watts in the 125 mm class. The range of workstation disks includes accessories for metal, stone and concrete work. Cutting, Sanding, Edge Grinding, Rust Removal, Sanding, Polishing: with the X-Lock you can replace the required accessories safely and quickly without using a wrench.

As an avid user of angle grinders, I am always on the lookout for convenient tool changing systems. In this regard, X-Lock seems intriguing. However, I would like to know more about its features and benefits. How does X-Lock make tool changing easier compared to other systems? Does it require any additional tools or modifications? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
