The company says the burner in the lower left corner needs repair. To correct its operation, owners of this product can contact a Whirlpool service center and call a technician at home.

The company encourages all owners of said gas cooktop models to visit /data/away/da9723de1f981bd18d8a0a3a3c50627adf/ or contact a service center at 8-800-3333-887 to see if their product participates in a safety campaign. To do this, check the serial number and model number. Consumers will be able to choose a convenient day and time for a specialist visit diagnosis and repair will be free of charge.

As a precaution, we ask customers not to use the lower left burner until it has been repaired by a Whirlpool technician. All other burners work smoothly and can be used.

Due to a technical issue during manufacturing, the wrong gas nozzles were installed in some cooktops. The lower left burner can provoke increased carbon monoxide emissions, with levels that can exceed established standards. In very rare cases, it may have adverse effects on health and well-being. Internal company expertise has confirmed that there is no risk of fire when using an improperly working burner. The company has not received any notifications of incidents involving said gas cookers, but as a precautionary measure, it is launching a program to repair the models.

Whirlpool apologizes to consumers and is currently contacting registered users of these products to inform them of the need for repair.

More Info

A total of 144 AKM 274/IX cooktops were sold in America. The model was taken off the market in 2016 due to the standard process of taking products off the market. Models manufactured before July 2014 do not need to be repaired. Cooking surfaces converted to LPG do not require repair.

Consumers can see the model number in the appliance manual or on a special plaque under the hob. If it is not possible to know the model number, buyers should first check if their product is made of stainless steel, has a width of 60 cm and 4 burners, the control panel is located on the right and the black ignition button is in the lower right corner. In case the product fits the description above, buyers should contact Whirlpool service center.
