ViewSonic’s projection solution created a panoramic immersive movie dome

ViewSonic Corporation, the world’s leading provider of visual presentation products, partnered with Corbett Wall, Taiwan’s famed “king of the saxophone,” to present Asia’s first immersive, full-dome show using ViewSonic laser projection technology. 10M diameter dome, made especially for the 2020 MOTUS International Fulldome Festival, showcases numerous films by directors from around the world, including Through the Eyes of the Tribesman. The festival is held in the Alishan district. The 40-minute audio-visual experience fully immerses viewers into the life of an indigenous community, and allows them to enjoy the beauty of nature and get a taste of the real forest.

Corbett Wall, festival curator and founder of Rebalance Renaissance, says, “The goals of the project are to bring a new source of art to mountain areas, rekindle urban residents’ interest in nature, and create a strong connection between urban populations and tribes. Advanced laser projection technology of ViewSonic Corporation allowed us to solve all the problems of building a huge panoramic dome for the broadcast of audiovisual show. We’ve achieved a surprisingly immersive effect that makes each viewer feel as if they are tangled up with nature. Art is what will enable the world to see indigenous Alishani tribes’ lives and livelihoods, and for the tribes to feel proud of their people and the place where they live.

The construction of a huge dome is made possible by the seamless integration of five ViewSonic LS860WU short-throw laser projectors. The dome projects novelties from various video mapping artists and film producers from around the world. The laser projectors’ light output reaches up to 5,000 lumens and a 300,000:1 contrast ratio, which allows even the faintest colors to become bright. These features make watching Through the Eyes of the Tribesman feel like being immersed in the forest, watching a hunter with only a knife, rice and salt, struggle with his surroundings
