DIY for a good cause

The “DIY for a good cause” campaign doesn’t involve doing something big and costly financially. The idea is to make something small but very useful. The Dremel experts suggest you use your DIY skills to construct a practical kit in which you can donate to charity, take old toys to a children’s home or simply present your neighbors with a barbecue pot.

What you will need:

– The Dremel 3000 multitool

– 13mm sanding band, grit 60 408

– universal cutting kit 565

– Dremel DSM20 compact saw

– Glued wood boards, 2 stainless steel hinges, round-head nails, wood glue, hammer, Phillips screwdriver.

Tools

Step 1

On the laminated wood planks, mark the dimensions of your future chest of drawers. You need 690x500mm front and rear sections, 400x500mm side sections, 654x440mm bottom and 690x436mm lid. You also need two bars 24x44x380mm each to hold the cover in place.

Step 2

Use your Dremel DSM20 compact saw to cut all the pieces to size. Then, draw a 70mm horizontal line down the inside of the side section parallel to the top edge. The line should be 35mm from the top. Make a mark in the center of this line. This is where the hole for the side slash handles will be.

Step 3

Take your Dremel 3000 with the multipurpose cutting kit 565 and slowly drill holes for the side handles. Use the wooden template for this, as shown in the picture. After polishing the edges of all the cut out parts and grip slots with the Dremel 3000 with sanding tape 408 .

Step 4

Nail the sides and bottom of the drawer together. Then mount the two woodblocks on the lid from underneath at a distance of 50mm as shown in the photo. Attach two iron hinges and a lock to the lid of the chest and the corresponding sides. The finished product can now be decorated and filled with something useful.
