TÜV Rheinland certified Dell laptops with Eyesafe display for blue light reduction

Dell’s premium and gaming PC models with Eyesafe displays, including the Alienware Area 51m, Alienware m17, G7 and XPS 13 2-in-1, have been announced to meet T certification requirements at a special ceremony at Computex International&Uuml V Rheinland blue light certification.

This certification is an important step in recognition of the health risks associated with extended screen time and excessive exposure to harmful blue light. Dell’s innovation proves that it is now possible to achieve the right technical balance between display performance and health. Compared to other blue-light-suppression solutions, which affect the color gamut via software, the Eyesafe display changes the architecture of the backlight at a hardware level while maintaining color rendering quality.

Earlier at Computex, Dell Technologies unveiled new products from its Alienware, G-Series and XPS product lines with Eyesafe displays that meet the T&Uuml V for low blue light. T&Uuml V Rheinland Method 2 involves reducing blue light by hardware, which is still rare in the PC industry. This requires that the ratio of high-energy visible blue light 415-455 nm to total blue light 400-500 nm be less than 50 percent.

Eyesafe technology intelligently manages the high-energy visible blue light displayed while maintaining color reproduction. The Eyesafe display was developed in conjunction with a world-class team of ophthalmologists, engineers and researchers with years of experience in electronics, display materials and light management. It was created to meet the most stringent industry requirements for safety and color reproduction.

“T&Uuml V Rheinland is pleased to support the computer industry’s focus on designing devices designed with consumer health and safety in mind,” said Jay Yang, vice president of T&Uuml V Rheinland in the PRC. – “Integrating effective blue light management features is an important step toward staying healthy in the long run.”.

“The Dell team was proud to accept the T&Uuml V Rheinland. We believe our new Eyesafe display products will set a new standard for our industry,” said Ray Wah, Dell’s senior vice president of Small Business and Consumer Products. – Our high-performance PC users are some of the most demanding in the industry, and we’re excited to provide them with this innovation in Alienware, G-Series and XPS computers.”.

People are spending more and more time with screens on phones, tablets, computers and virtual reality devices, and with that comes increased exposure to high-energy visible blue light. With prolonged use of devices, many of which are in close proximity to the eyes, the negative health effects become apparent. A growing body of research links exposure to blue light to disrupt natural sleep cycles and notes a host of potential health problems.

“Manufacturers are making important decisions for their users, and we are proud to play a role in bringing health concerns to the industry,” stressed Justin Barrett, CEO of Healthe, the company that developed Eyesafe technology. – There is still a lot of work to be done, but this is a very important milestone for T&Uuml V Rheinland and Dell.”.
