Toshiba Memory Europe unveils new generation Serial Inteusaace NAND

Toshiba Memory Europe today unveiled the second generation of NAND flash memory for embedded solutions, featuring increased capacity and performance. New Serial Interface NAND products are compatible with the popular SPI interface because of their high data transfer rate and are suitable for a wide range of consumer, industrial and communications applications. Shipment of test chip samples begins today, with mass production scheduled for October of this year.

As IoT and communication devices get smaller and smaller, the demand for flash memory in miniature packages with a small number of pins, which can provide high speed data reading and writing, is growing. Compatible with the popular SPI interface, Serial Interface NAND series products can be used as low-pin SLC NAND flash memory with high storage capacity and small footprint.

To ensure high-speed data transfer, the new second-generation Serial Interface NAND products feature increased performance compared to the first generation , including support for 133 MHz operating frequency and program x4 mode. In addition, to meet the demand for larger memory capacities, the new line includes an 8Gbit 1GB solution. All chips are available in 8-pin WSON 6 x 8 mm packages.

Key Features

– Capacities from 1 to 8 Gb

– 2Kbit 1/2Gb and 4Kbit 4/8Gb memory page sizes for more efficient OS read/write operations

– x4 Program and Read modes for improved access speed and programming performance

– ECC and Data Protection support detects bit inversion and protects allocated blocks

– Parameter Page feature for detailed device data

“The complexity of embedded devices and their size requirements are constantly increasing, so developers need the flexibility and performance that the new Serial Interface NAND flash memory can provide,” said Axel Stoermann, vice president of Toshiba Memory Europe. – As the inventor of NAND flash and leader in 3D flash storage, Toshiba is the first choice for innovative technology, small form factor and reliability that benefits consumers as a result.

Shipment of test samples of the chips begins today, with mass shipments of the product scheduled for October 2019
