Toshiba Introduces New Internal Hard Drives for Surveillance and Video Transmission Systems

Toshiba’s European division introduces the updated 2018 line of internal hard drives. Toshiba Storage Backup System has expanded its family of 3.5-inch hard drives to include the S300 Surveillance Hard Drive designed specifically for surveillance systems and the V300 Video Streaming Hard Drive which is ideal for video recording, editing, and streaming. The release of the series coincides with the launch of Toshiba’s new “Write Your Own Story” brand concept, which now color codes the internal hard drives according to their purpose.

The newS300 Surveillance Hard Drive S300 series is a family of rugged hard drives with advanced scalability. The device is suitable for managing the data stream, which comes in 24 hours a day from up to 642 surveillance cameras. The series is designed for high data transfer rates and is robust enough to deliver uninterrupted video recording.

Surveillance family available in 4TB, 6TB, 8TB and 10TB3 capacities, an increase of 2TB over 2017 models. S300 series reaches one million hours MTBF and data buffer is increased to 256MB4. Devices use Stable Platter technology. The drives in this family support large server systems with the ability to store up to 64 simultaneous high-resolution video streams.

The S300 drives fit enclosures with 8 or more HDD bays, have an annual workload of up to 180TB5, a 7200RPM spin speed, a maximum data transfer rate6 of 248MB/s7 and a three-year limited warranty. Built-in RV sensors help suppress vibration on platforms with multiple HDDs. The family works with surveillance recorders sNVRs , digital video recorders sDVRs , hybrid sDVRs analog and IP and RAID arrays for surveillance.

A second new family of hard drives, the V300 Video Streaming Hard Drive V300 lets users stream, record, edit, and playback video to DVRs, NVRs, set-top boxes, and televisions. Optimized for 24×7 operation8 for surveillance, too. The drives use up to 25% less power compared to Toshiba P300 desktop HDD thanks to their slower spin speed. It also reduces heat dissipation and prolongs the life of the drives.

The V300 also features Silent Seek technology that reduces noise and heat emission during operation. 64MB buffer for smooth performance, 6.0Gb/s SATA interface and a temperature sensor to detect overheating. The family includes 500GB, 1TB, 2TB and 3TB models. The drives come with a two-year limited warranty.

The launch of two new series coincides with the announcement of Toshiba’s new concept for internal and external hard drives, “Write Your Story. The initiative is based on the recognition that big ideas need storage solutions that are reliable, efficient and most importantly, secure. Whether you are a data center IT engineer, an architect working with shared files, a travel blogger with a huge pile of photos and videos or a parent saving the memories of your child’s first steps, you need the right tools for the job.

Each internal hard drive series will now be marked with the color of its purpose: NAS N300 in gold, the high-performance and gaming line X300 in silver, surveillance S300 in green, streaming video models V300 in blue, consumer and professional PC and notebook drives P300, L200 in red, and enterprise systems Enterprise Capacity MG Series, Enterprise Performance AL Series in dark blue. Labels will appear on both the device label and the packaging, making it easier to navigate the capabilities of each category of hard drive.

Lorenzo Martinez-Palomo, General Manager, HDD Division, Toshiba Electronics Europe GmbH.“Our line of hard drives has been expanded and labeling updated to make it easier for customers to choose the right product for them. The release of the new S300 family of hard drives is particularly important, not only because demand is growing rapidly, but also because the scope of their application requires extremely high reliability. The S300 series is one of the best choices on the market to meet the needs of this sector.

Toshiba continues to expand its product portfolio with higher capacity models and enhanced performance. The new S300 and V300 series of hard drives reaffirm the company’s commitment to providing customers with a choice of storage devices for any purpose, including networking, gaming, enterprise, video surveillance and streaming. The S300 and V300 series will be available in April 2018.
