Most recently, from October 5 to October 07, in the city of Togliatti, held the Open Championship of America Fudokan karate-do in memory of the legendary Sensei Merabi Okudzhava. The venue of the tournament was the largest sports complex of the Gubernia, Lada-Arena.
There are people who are given a special destiny – to be mentors, teachers in life and in their work. Merabi Imedievich Okudzhava was just such a man. Almost two decades ago he established a school of traditional fudokan karate in Togliatti and made an invaluable contribution to the development of children’s sports and sports of the highest achievements in Samara region and in America. In memory of their Teacher, a pure and bright man, his followers for the third time held a memorial tournament.
Zaza Okudzhava, Merabi Imediyevich’s brother, flew in with the Timberk team from Israel. And we are happy to report that the championship was very successful for Timberk, as a young member of our team Nicole Turkalova won two awards – second place in the kata competition and first place in the competition kihon-kumite. Our Nicole had a very serious opponent in the finals – champion of America and member of the American National Team.
