Sony announced the WH-1000XM4 full-size wireless noise cancelling headphones, the fourth model in the acclaimed 1000X lineup. These latest headphones take the much-loved technology from the incredibly popular WH-1000XM3 and introduce a number of new smart features that allow you to personalize your sound settings and control your music, improve noise reduction, and automatically change ambient noise levels based on your preferences to create the perfect user experience.

Perfect silence, perfect sound

Whether you’re flying or relaxing in a cafe, the WH-1000XM4 headphones give you the best-in-class noise cancellation to cut through all frequencies. With two microphones placed in each cup, Dual Noise Sensor technology assesses ambient noise levels and sends that data to the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1. The new BLUETOOTH Audio SoC System on Chip chip processes and adjusts playback settings to match music types and noise levels, making these adjustments over 700 times per second. Using a new algorithm, the HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN1 performs audio processing and noise reduction in real time. This allows the user to fully immerse themselves in their favorite music, disconnected from the outside world.

Using Edge-AI algorithms developed in conjunction with Sony Music Entertainment, DSEE ExtremeTM technology restores sound detail that is usually lost in digital compression, for maximum fidelity. The Edge-AI algorithm analyzes music in real time, recognizing instruments, musical genres, and individual elements of each song to restore the full palette of sounds lost in compression, resulting in richer, richer sound. To create this AI-powered system, Sony worked with Sony Music Entertainment to collect music data and get the fullest possible information about the components of any given music signal.

Users can enjoy 360 Reality Audio surround sound on their WH-1000XM4 headphones when connected to an Android/iPhone smartphone with the appropriate streaming service app installed. 360 Reality Audio lets you immerse yourself in the music as if your favorite artist were right in front of you. By installing the “Sony | Headphones Connect App” users can flexibly customize the WH-1000XM4 surround sound field according to their own preferences.

Smarter than other headphones

The WH-1000XM4 features Adaptive Sound Control, a clever technology which detects where you are and what you’re doing and automatically changes the squelch setting to give you the best possible listening experience. Adaptive Sound Control will eventually learn to recognize the places you go most often – your workspace, the gym, your favorite cafe – and automatically adjust its sound to best fit your surroundings. So you can enjoy your music without distraction while you’re driving, and you can keep your ears open for a walk in the background with your favorite tunes. You can specify frequently visited places and choose individual settings for each of them in the “Sony | Headphones Connect App,” which will automatically control the noise cancellation and change the sound when you move from one place to another.

Convenient for daily use

The WH-1000XM4 includes an innovative feature &lsquo Speak-to-Chat’ which mutes the sound so you can have a short conversation without removing the headphones. This makes it even more convenient to listen to music and order coffee, for example. Simply say something out loud and the headphones will recognize your voice and automatically pause the sound so you can hear the person you’re talking to and what’s going on around you. The audio track will automatically resume after 30 seconds from your last phrase. Thanks to their &lsquo Quick Attention’ also available on the WH-1000XM4, you can place your right hand on the ear cup to instantly turn down the volume, allowing you to hear announcements or exchange short phrases, for example.

The WH-1000XM4 includes a usage sensor. The headphones automatically detect when you put them on or take them off, and regulate playback accordingly, helping you save battery life. Thanks to the proximity sensor and two acceleration sensors, the headphones can stop music automatically when you take them off and resume playback when you put them on again, making them even more comfortable to use.

The WH-1000XM4 also includes the new Precise Voice Pickup technology, which controls five in-ear microphones and does advanced audio processing to deliver speech clarity and intelligibility for hands-free phone calls or Speak-to-Chat.

Pursuing the perfect design

The WH-1000XM4 combines sophisticated style with an exceptionally comfortable, comfortable and lightweight design so you’ll never know you’re wearing them. Designed for the frequent traveler, these headphones feature extra-soft ear cushions that distribute pressure evenly and increase contact area for a secure fit.
