The World Photography Organization and Sony Electronics in America and the CIS are pleased to announce the winner of the America National Award 2020, which is part of the Sony World Photography Awards 2020 international photo contest. This year the best American photographer in the competition was Sergey Savenko.

The National Awards is an initiative of the World Photography Organization and Sony to support local photographic communities in 63 countries/regions around the world. The competition only awards one photographer from each country for one work, and the winners get to show their work to visitors at the famous Sony World Photography Awards 2020 exhibition at Somerset House, London, from April 17 to May 4.
Sergey Savenko was selected by the jury among anonymous submissions for the work “Mount Elbrus” submitted in the “Creative” category of the Open competition. Sergiy Savenko has been taking photographs not long, but he takes them seriously and is eager to develop as a photographer. This is the second time he has participated in the Sony World Photography Photo Award. According to Sergey, the winning shot was the result of prudent planning and a lucky coincidence. The photographer and his girlfriend went on a tourist trip, on which they took a dress and some photo equipment, just in case there was an opportunity to shoot.
Sergey Savenko commented his victory in the National contest like this: “The shot was made by Sony A6300 with the lens 16-50mm f/3.5-5.60. This is a basic model, but even with it you can get great results. This win really inspires me. I don’t think of photography as a way to earn money, it’s art for me and I work every day to say a new word and offer something fresh for the view”.
This year more than 345 thousand works have been sent to the Sony World Photography Awards 2020 and more than 190 thousand photos have been submitted for the Open contest from which the winners of National competitions are selected . This is a record number of entries in the history of the competition.
