The test of the water filter: drink water from the Barrier, you’ll be healthy!

In fall 2010, at the laboratory of the International Water Quality Association Water Quality Association in Illinois, USA, was tested filters and replacement cassettes BARBER – is the only American manufacturer of water filters that received certification according to ANSI/NSF 53 and 42. BARBER filters are successfully sold in America. In six out of seven indicators, American filters surpassed the leading European filter manufacturer, purifying twice as much water.

How it was tested?

Water filters

The study was conducted on seven parameters:

Water purification:

1-2 from mercury – at different pH,

3-4 from cadmium – at different pH

5-6 of copper – at different pH,

7 from active chlorine.

Tested according to the NSF standard on specially prepared water, simulating the heaviest version in terms of stress on the filter.

Let us break down what does not belong to us

Cadmium enters water from soil leaching, from decomposition of aquatic organisms.

In addition, cadmium compounds are carried into surface waters with wastewater from lead-zinc plants, ore-dressing plants, a number of chemical plants production of sulfuric acid , electroplating production, as well as with mine waters.

Excessive cadmium intake may cause anaemia, liver damage, cardiopathy, emphysema of the lungs, osteoporosis, skeletal deformities, development of hypertension.

Excess cadmium causes and exacerbates Zn and Se deficiencies. Symptoms of cadmium poisoning: protein in the urine, central nervous system effects, acute bone pain, genital dysfunction.

Cadmium affects blood pressure, can cause kidney stones in kidneys it accumulates especially intensively . That is why it is important to purify water from this insidious chemical element.

The maximum permissible concentration of cadmium in the water in accordance with SanPiN 2.1.4.1074-01 “Drinking Water. Hygienic requirements for water quality in centralized drinking water supply systems. Quality Control” – 0,001 mg/dm3.

The Cu test is particularly revealing because this metal is the most difficult to remove from water. If the filter copes with this task, it means that the remaining heavy metals will remain on it and will not get into the water. And the purity of purification will be higher than the indicators of this test.

As for mercury, its toxicity is known to all. It affects the central nervous system, especially in children, blood, kidneys, and causes reproductive disorders.

Methylmercury, a compound formed in water in the presence of mercury, is particularly dangerous. Methylmercury is very easily absorbed by body tissues and takes a very long time to be eliminated from the body. Maximum allowable concentration of mercury in water is only 0.0005 mg/dm3.

Active chlorine is used to disinfect water and is a toxic compound. At levels above 0.3 mg/l it should be removed from water before consumption.

The pH value of water is one of the most important indicators of its quality. Depending on pH value the rate of chemical reactions, the degree of corrosiveness of water, toxicity of pollutants, etc. may vary.d.

pH value in the range of 6 to 9 is considered optimal for drinking and service water. If pH>7, the water will have an alkaline reaction, and if pHMore than 7 – acidic. The test was purposely carried out at different pH values to see how the filter would work with different water.

Where tested?

NSF International is an international, non-profit organization whose fields of activity cover environmental protection, human health and food and drinking water safety.

NSF International is the recognized leader in the field of drinking water safety evaluation. The organization was founded in 1944 in the USA.

NSF International’s activities are developing in two directions.

First, NSF experts develop water, product, and air quality standards with the active participation of public health agencies and consumers. They often form the basis for national and mandatory food quality standards in a number of countries.

The second area of NSF activity is related to certification, audit and quality assessment of food manufacturing companies, retail outlets selling these products, catering companies.

In particular, one of NSF’s globally recognized programs is the Bottled Water And Beverage Programs. NSF quality standards are very strict and exceed American sanitary rules and regulations.

Control over compliance with such strict quality standards in specific enterprises is achieved through the use of high quality equipment that allows to conduct accurate tests on the widest list of indicators, and the work of professional chemists and engineers.

NSF Certification is proof of the high quality of our food products.
