The Sony A5000 mirrorless camera review

While the A6000 was a direct successor to the NEX-6, the analogy doesn’t work with the A5000. The camera was a bit too “lightweight” compared to the NEX-5 series. Combining some of the functionality of the average amateur and format entry-level Sony E system cameras, the A5000 is the smallest and lightest of all mirrorless cameras with an APS-C sensor.

A 20 megapixel sensor detects sharpness purely by contrast phase focus sensors are still found only in more advanced devices . True, the developers argue that the performance of focusing on contrast has increased not least due to the use of the processor Bionz X, created for the flagship A7 and A7R. Using this chip, by the way, had no effect on the A5000’s low-light shooting abilities, which remained at the level of budget segment cameras. The maximum available light sensitivity is the same as that of the NEX-3N, which is gradually leaving the market. True, the developers claim to improve the noise processing algorithms.

The camera has a built-in flash, but there is no “hot shoe” and there is no connector for external accessories. The screen is equipped with a tilt mechanism, which is quite good for such dimensions, but the resolution of the LCD panel is rather modest. The zoom lever is a commonly found control in cameras designed to be a stopover point for amateur photographers switching from “point-and-shoot” to serious equipment. It can be used to control the motorized zoom of the kit lens. But there was no place for the second control wheel of exposure parameters. The creators of the camera generally assume that the user of A5000 will operate more with the concepts of “bright”, “dark”, “I want to blur the background” or “I want everything clear” than photographic terms. So for creative photography the camera has a Photo Creativity shell, which allows you to manage the settings without going into technical details.

What the manufacturer was not stingy on, and it is on the communication capabilities. The A5000 has a Wi-Fi module with full functionality, and it supports interaction with the Sony PlayMemories app store.

This review on the Sony A5000 mirrorless camera seems quite promising! The detailed specifications and features mentioned are intriguing. However, I’m curious to know how the camera performs in low-light conditions. Has the review mentioned anything about its low-light capabilities, such as ISO range or noise reduction?
