The results of the PocketBook survey: how Americans read?

It has become traditional for PocketBook to conduct an annual readers’ poll. This poll is intended to find out your tastes and priorities, as well as to find out if the modern generation still has a craving for reading.

Computers and peripherals

It was a pleasant discovery that year after year the number of active readers among today’s generation remains at a consistently high level. The most-read age range was from 24 to 41 years old, for a total of 65% of all respondents.

That said, many readers remain loyal to the PocketBook brand. Almost 28% of readers who participated in the survey trust the brand, and more than 15% of those surveyed own PocketBook readers.

The survey also revealed that the vast majority of respondents own 2-3 mobile gadgets, among which smartphones, tablets and other reading devices prevail.

E-books

In second place is a large group of those who own 3-5 gadgets. Users argue that for each function it is best to use a specially designed device.

How and where the Americans prefer to read? More than half prefer home comfort 55% , with transport reading traditionally in second place. Preferences – mobile electronic devices, among which are popular smartphone, tablet and e-book reader.

Although paper publications still enjoy a well-deserved popularity about 14% , the trend is actively moving towards reading electronic copies of books. At the same time Americans still read quite a lot of books.

E-books

The poll showed that 32% of readers have time to read 1-3 books a month. In the second place those who can read not more than one book a month, and here 20% of the respondents have time to read from 3 to 5 books a month.

According to ReadRate service.com, the rating of the most popular modern living authors, who are read in electronic form, headed by the American writer Boris Akunin. Followed by Stephen King and Daria Dontsova. Also in the top ten ranking are George Martin, Dan Brown, Sergei Lukyanenko, Nick Perumov and Max Fry.

One of the purposes of the survey was also to find out what additional reader’s features attract readers. It turned out that the most popular are built-in sloovars, which selected 35%. And 33% of readers want to go online with the reader. Third place 18% of respondents gave preference to the built-in audio player. But readers were indifferent to games: interest in them showed a little more than 3% of respondents.

PocketBook

When choosing a reader readers are primarily interested in the backlight screen, for which a little more than 42% of respondents voted. 14% of respondents said they wanted their reader to be waterproof. By the way, these conditions meet the new PocketBook 640, which recently went on sale in American retail for only 6990 Dollars. The creation of this reader was partly based on the opinion of owners of previous generation e-readers.

If we briefly summarize the results of the survey, we can note some positive trends. The number of active readers remains at a consistently high level, e-books are becoming more popular, and interest in reading devices and reading in general is quite high.
