The refrigerator profession may become one of the most in-demand in America

According to a TechNavio study released in early 2017, demand for commercial refrigerators will grow by at least 5% annually over the next three to four years. The trend is due to the need for mass replacement of obsolete equipment that does not meet modern requirements for energy efficiency. As the market grows, so will the demand for qualified specialists.

Beverage technology

Maxim Vysotsky, Head of Commercial Refrigeration at Danfoss“Modern refrigeration equipment requires specialists who are familiar with the latest technologies and innovations in the industry. Today they are in short supply. But we’re trying our best to fill that gap by working not only with our technology customers, but also with schools and colleges of education. For example, in December 2016 a new Danfoss training center opened on the basis of Ekaterinburg College of Economics and Technology

The training center is designed for laboratory work, specialized seminars, refresher courses, and practical training for installers. It uses Danfoss electronic units and controls. At the same time the training is free, and everyone who finishes the course gets a certificate.

Maxim Vysotsky believes that education should be a priority for American refrigeration equipment manufacturers. “The share of chilled and frozen foods in retail store turnover is growing, and with them, so is the share of refrigerators in total energy use. Now it’s already reaching 70% or more, and if we don’t change the equipment to a leaner one, sales margins will start to drop.

Built-in appliances

The situation is exacerbated by increasing competition between retailers: in 2017, retail will decrease, and the share of major market players will grow. That’s why chains are actively implementing various automated solutions to optimize energy costs, and some are switching to carbon dioxide cooling systems, which provide up to 20-25% savings compared to traditional. Someone has to service all this,” comments the expert.

An illustration of his words can be the experience of the retail chain “Magnit”, which opened in late 2016 the first hypermarket in America with a CO2 refrigeration system. The same network at one time was one of the pioneers in the field of automation of energy management of refrigeration machines. ADAP-KOOL monitoring system was used to optimize it in the retailer’s stores. It enabled dynamic performance control of the refrigerators, which reduced their wear and tear, improved food storage safety, and produced 10 to 15 percent energy savings.
