The new iPhone has squeezed Android flagships

Roskachestvo together with international consumer testing institutes presented an updated rating of smartphones, which now includes 140 models. The iPhone 13 line and several flagships from Sony and Samsung were added to the rating – a total of 8 new smartphones were tested this fall and evaluated by experts.

These international phone quality tests have been conducted for over 11 years in Europe’s leading accredited laboratory. The devices are rated on 231 metrics, including security, performance, battery and camera performance, sound, privacy and more. All of Apple’s new lineup were tested: iPhone 13, Pro, Pro Max and mini, as well as Android smartphones: Sony Xperia 1 III, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3, and the increasingly popular OnePlus Nord 2 5G.

As a result, the iPhone 13 Pro Max was recognized as the best smartphone according to Roskatchestvo. Thus, the iOS device squeezed the previous leaders from Samsung and Sony. The 13 Pro version confidently takes the fourth place, while iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are in the second and third tens of the rankings.

The best camera, durable body, bright display: what you need to know about the new iPhone 13

All new “iPhones” passed our tumblr test without damage. During the test, the smartphones were placed in a special rotating mechanism, where they had to survive 100 consecutive drops from almost a meter height.

The displays of the new iPhones showed high results in the test: they are a little brighter than the 12th version, which increases readability, for example, when direct sunlight hits the screen. However, only iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max owners will be able to appreciate innovations in the form of ProMotion technology for smooth display of content when scrolling.

Also, even though Apple announced upgrading the display frequency to 120 Hz as a major breakthrough, this can only be considered a breakthrough for the iPhone. Some Android smartphones have been able to boast this display frequency for at least a year now.

At the same time, according to Roskatchestvo tests, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have the best camera among the smartphones studied at the moment – they are ahead of last year’s leader – the iPhone 12 Pro Max. This was due, among other things, to two innovations: the appearance of the Cinema Effect mode for shallow depth of field photography and macro photography. The closest Android competitor with similar quality footage is the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G.

Version 13 Pro Max lasts longer than other iPhone models

In terms of battery life, the best result showed the iPhone 13 Pro Max – 52.5 hours. And although the previously tested Samsung Galaxy M51 showed more impressive results the Android model lasts 8 hours longer , this is still the best result for Apple smartphones. For example, the Pro Max 12 version could work without recharging for only 41 hours. The other models have more modest figures: iPhone 13 and 13 Pro – 40 hours, mini – 33 hours. Last year’s iPhone 12 mini only had 29 hours of battery life .

New Android flagships are a good alternative to Apple smartphones?

At the same time as the new iPhone series were tested several important flagships from Sony and Samsung: Sony Xperia 1 III, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Flip3, as well as OnePlus Nord 2 5G.

Of the new Android smartphones we can mention the Sony Xperia 1 III, which took eighth place in the Roskati rating. This is a productive and long-life smartphone with a quality display. It has a decent camera that takes pictures with good contrast and colors, but it is still inferior to the top cameras on the market. The camera does not cope with low light, gives a lot of noise with poor detail. You can find a gadget with similar specs for a much lower price. Those who do not need an advanced camera, it is more rational to choose a powerful budget smartphone for 30,000 Dollars, rather than overpay for the flagship from Sony costing about 80 thousand Dollars . And if you need a good “camera phone”, then Sony is still not a competitor to Apple products.

Other recent smartphones from brands OnePlus and Samsung are in the second and fifth place in the ranking of Roskati. Nevertheless, the previously studied Android devices are still in the lead.

Top 5 smartphones

Based on testing across 11 categories, including: camera, performance, display, sound, battery and durability. As you can see from the final rating, the difference in design and many of the technical characteristics between the iPhone 13 and the previous generation models is minimal, although the novelty certainly has a number of nice features.

Marina Borovkova, head of international research department of Roskachestvo:

“Only 8% of users believe that the iPhone 13 is the new technological breakthrough in the world of smartphones. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by Roskachevo before the study. The vast majority – 92% of respondents – believe that the new “iPhone” is just a minor update to last year’s version. Lab tests generally confirm readers’ opinions: the iPhone 13 Pro Max was only 0.13 points ahead of the 12 Pro Max. But it was also enough to make the new Apple gadget the leader of Roskatchestvo smartphones rating”.

Owners of recent-generation iPhones iPhone 11 or 12 may not be in a hurry to upgrade. Nevertheless, if you own an iPhone version from five years ago for example, from 6 to 10 and have long been thinking about upgrading, then one of the iPhone 13 options could be a good buy that is worth its money. Especially if you want a smartphone with the best camera on the market, impressive performance and autonomy.
