The Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer: put your hands in, no water, no wiping on your pants..

Dyson, together with independent experts from The University of Bradford, England, conducted a study on the hygiene performance of the Dyson Airblade™ ultra-fast hand dryer, comparing it to conventional thermal air dryers and paper towels. The results of the report were published in the Journal of Applied Microbiology.

For Beauty

Experiments have shown that rubbing hands together, in an attempt to speed up the drying process with a conventional dryer, increases bacteria and germ levels – something the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer avoids. A lot of the research focused on hand washing technique and the antibacterial effectiveness of detergents. Washing your hands, in most cases, reduces the number of bacteria on the skin surface, but it does not completely eliminate it.

Conventional dryers use heated air to evaporate moisture. It’s a fairly time-consuming process. Most people don’t have the patience to dry their hands, so they either Dollars them on their clothes or stay with damp hands. How wet your hands are affects the spread of germs, because we know that bacteria and germs can multiply up to 1,000 times faster on wet hands than on dry hands.

Unless hands are dried properly and thoroughly, transmission of bacteria through handshakes or objects is inevitable.

This is because bacteria are able to remain viable and adapt to new environmental conditions. If hands are systematically left wet due to ineffective drying, it can lead to skin irritation, which in turn can lead to mutations and more dangerous bacteria colonizing the skin surface.

The Dyson Airblade™ dryer blows water off the surface of your hands in just 10 seconds, using two air streams.

And before the air reaches the hands, it passes through a HEPA filter, which retains up to 99% of particles.9% of pathogenic bacteria.

Unlike Dyson, conventional dryers use a slow, warm air stream that evaporates moisture from hand surfaces in an average of 30-35 seconds. Based on experiments and laboratory tests, it has been concluded that the Dyson Airblade™ is superior to conventional air dryers. With Airblade™, hands don’t come into contact with each other, which means less bacteria can develop and fewer carriers.

As well as comparing the Dyson Airblade™ with a conventional thermal dryer, paper towels were also used in the experiment. The report highlights that disposal of used paper towels is a key issue, especially in high-traffic areas such as airports, train stations, stadiums and large shopping malls. Garbage cans overflow quickly and clean towel bins often stand empty. In this case, washed hands remain wet and the risk of transmission and spread of bacteria increases.

Dyson has also commissioned the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to assess the environmental performance of the Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer. Study proves Airblade™ has the lowest environmental impact of paper towels and standard dryers, including all stages of the life-cycle, from production to disposal.

Using a DDM digital motor, the Dyson dryer uses up to 80% less energy than a conventional dryer, so it operates at a significantly lower cost. Airblade™ also has the lowest impact on global warming, potential human health impacts, ecosystem quality, energy consumption, water and land use than any other hand dryer.

The hygiene, efficiency and environmental friendliness of the Dyson Airblade™ has been confirmed by research from leading universities and independent organisations such as the National Sanitation Foundation NSF International , the Royal Society of Public Health RSPH, England , the World Food Research Organisation Campden BRI, UK . The Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer is the only hand dryer legally eligible for the Carbon Trust’s low-carbon label.

The Dyson Airblade™ hand dryer is the most hygienic hand dryer available today, with a special HEPA filter that cleans the air and traps up to 99.9% of bacteria. There is a special anti-bacterial coating on the dryer surface that kills pathogenic microbes. With all these features, the Dyson Airblade™ is the most suitable dryer for use in places with high demands on hygiene and sanitation, such as hospitals, schools and food production facilities.
