The car will become another human living space

Connectivity turns the car into another human living space on par with home and work. With personalized communication between car and driver, fast-paced performance and comprehensive service will safely function in the future. By 2022, the global market for networked cars will grow at a rate of nearly 25 percent per year.

In just a few years, cars will become an indispensable part of the Internet of Things and will be able to communicate with other modes of transport in the same way as with the smart home. The car will also act as a personal assistant. Very soon, unmanned driving will allow drivers to devote more time to other activities. For example, now in the car, both driver and passengers will be able to write emails, listen to music or watch videos.

At MWC 2017, Bosch unveiled a concept car that demonstrates how, in the future, different areas of life can be seamlessly integrated into the car itself. Personalized communication between the car and its driver will also be enhanced. The car on display includes a wide range of innovative technologies: one of them is a driver monitoring camera that recognizes faces and personalizes settings from the moment the motorist sits in the car.

For example, the car will set its own steering wheel, mirrors, interior temperature and radio station according to the driver’s personal preferences. The concept car will also feature the world’s first gesture control and haptic feedback system, which works through ultrasonic sensors and detects the driver’s correct hand positioning. Thanks to a touchscreen with haptic feedback, the buttons that appear on the screen will feel convex.

New feature allows you to keep your eyes and eyes on the road, for a safer driving experience. The innovative Mirror Cam System, which works with special cameras, will completely replace exterior mirrors. Video sensors can be built into the interior of the car, which will display images from the right and left side of the front pillar of the car.

No keys: the security of storing car keys on your smartphone

To make life easier and more customizable, many apps will target cell phones. The possibility of starting the car without keys is another way of personalising it: Perfectly Keyless is a system of access to the car in which the user’s smartphone is a digital key.

With the encrypted digital key on the phone, the car can be unlocked and started without any interaction. When approaching the car, the system automatically identifies the secret key on the smartphone and begins to measure the distance: within a set range about two meters the motor starts. Everything happens in a similar way if Perfectly Keyless detects a mobile device inside the car.

Territorial parking

Bosch is working to integrate smart solutions into the car in order to maximize the connection between the car and the environment. For example, with “territorial parking” feature, a car can detect parking spaces by itself. When the car is in motion, it uses onboard sensors to record free parking spaces. The collected data is then transmitted and displayed on a digital map of the city.

Reliability of the information is checked with specially developed Bosch algorithms, the system also makes forecasts of the parking situation in the city. Thanks to cloud data, the software creates a map of free spaces in real time, which not only saves time and money, but also puts less stress on the driver. Bosch is currently testing “territorial parking” with Mercedes-Benz in Stuttgart and other European cities.

New “Wrong-way driver” notification system that uses cloud computing

Alerts that there is a traffic jam in the city caused by a driver who has moved into the wrong lane are commonplace. Such incidents can lead to the most critical and serious consequences. Drivers are now alerted to such incidents through special channels and messages. On average, it takes three to four minutes to be notified of an incident. It also takes a certain amount of time to broadcast the warning on the radio, so that drivers who are at risk receive alerts too late.

Bosch’s new cloud-based Wrong-way driver notification system warns exposed drivers and other road users much faster within seconds . Program algorithms detect intruders: vehicle trajectory is recorded – when a driver enters a freeway from an adjoining driveway or leaves the main road vehicle movement is recorded in accordance with current regulations.

If any deviation occurs, the violating driver is immediately alerted of his or her wrong-way actions. At the same time, approaching drivers are also warned. This function works through regular anonymous messages that are sent to the cloud and informs about the current position of the vehicle when entering the freeway. The program will work much more efficiently with more connected cars. Wrong-way driver system is available as a smartphone app.

Two-wheeled transport – a solution that will increase comfort and safety

Bosch is also focusing on creating smart solutions for motorcycles. The Integrated Connectivity Cluster ICC information system is designed specifically for motorcycles. The system has different sizes and resolutions for displays and is created with the latest technology that allows you to read information in any situation. “mySPIN for two wheelers” is a smartphone app for motorcycles, scooters, e-bikes and motor vehicles.

The program works well with the ICC system, but can also be run on two-wheeler displays. This technology has been available for cars since 2014, but now it is also adapted for two-wheelers. The development is an innovative solution that makes driving two-wheelers not only much safer, but also much more comfortable. For example, a driver can now get information about traffic jams or share his route with other drivers. “mySPIN” for two-wheelers is compatible with iOS and Android smartphones.

Integrated system for electronic scooters eScooter demonstrates improved interaction between individual components via Internet connection. The development provides easy access to the most current and reliable information through the HMI or smartphone app: e.g. battery status, speed, remaining distance, etc.d. The “Home” function can generate the best possible route home, the “Anti-Vehicle” function immediately alerts the owner of the eScooter if the vehicle has been moved without authorization.

Smart Sensors: New Optical Solutions for Internet Applications

Bosch MEMS-sensors Micro Electro Mechanical Systems can be found in almost all electronic devices: smartphones, game consoles, tablets, in various applications for motor vehicles and security systems, also in other devices. Although the sensors are very small, they are extremely effective, making the system much safer, comfortable and easy to use. MEMS sensors are the eyes and ears of millions of electronic devices. At MWC 2017, Bosch unveiled the world’s first optical MEMS solutions that can be used in various Internet of Things applications. For example, for virtual control of appliances, tablets and social robots.

New BML050 microscanner integrated in an interactive laser projector

Bosch has introduced a new MEMS-based interactive laser projector, the BML050. Bosch Sensortec expands product line with optical microsystems. The innovative BML050 can transform absolutely any surface into a virtual user interface UI and interface with home appliances, tablets, household robots and other devices. The high-precision scanner works thanks to built-in tiny MEMS mirrors that reflect the color CCD laser and transmit the image.

The color resolutions of the BML050 far surpass industry standards such as Adobe®RGB. Compact size and high energy efficiency make the microscanner comfortable to use on oversized devices and power-hungry devices. The BML050 also includes a video processor, control circuits, laser drivers and power management. Bosch Sensortec is ready to support major operating systems and provide assistance to customers with operational settings. BML050 will be available for special projects in the second half of 2017.
