Test of the oil heater Scarlett SC-1167

Scarlett

ASKS: quick heating of the room, reliable and lightweight rotary control knobs, easy storage.

RESULTS: heater requires careful handling, because its body heats to an extremely high temperature, which is why it is dangerous to leave things on it, or thrown over the power cord, or just touch it during operation.

DESIGN

Thin fin sections, the minimalist design of the control panel and in tune with these, the roller supports. The heater is indoors, it will not draw attention to itself and will fit into any interior.

HEATING RATE

It took 15 mins 30 secs to heat up to working temperature, slower than all the devices tested. But the side heat radiation efficiency is quite decent: 2.75Ā°C.

When plugged into a 220V network, the deviation from nominal output was 4.92%. This is not a bad indicator!

FUNCTIONAL PARAMETERS

A room of 10 sq.m.The heater heated up by 10Ā°C in 1 hour and 5 minutes, which was a record for our test. Best speed! But it used 1.88 kW of electric power, which is pretty high. Maybe the reason is maximalism? Turn on both heating elements andā€¦ beat all!

In temperature maintenance mode the principle of operation is as follows: both heating elements work for some time, switch off for five minutes, then work again. With such a system of work, 1.43 kWh is consumed, which is rather uneconomical.

The temperature fluctuation is 1.33?C, itā€™s imperceptible, but itā€™s the highest test score, other heaters hold temperature better.

In a few hours the room becomes 1.83?C warmer than the set temperature value. This is not much, but it is the worst result of the test.

USABILITY

Assembly before use is typical for this class: U-shaped brackets are inserted into holes, supports with rollers are screwed to the brackets with wing nuts. To do this, the heater must be turned upside down. The installation diagram can be seen in the detailed instructions, which, however, have small print and drawings.

Turning on the heating elements is done by a rotary knob, each position of which is clearly marked. The second knob adjusts the thermostat and turns smoothly, with the bimetallic plate snapping back clearly. Large red indicator light indicates heating on.

The marking symbols on the shiny brown surface are poorly visible from above, and the surface glare.

The mobility of the equipment deserved remarks: the wheels are sluggish, and the handle for transportation is not well thought out. But there were no problems with parking: the power cord lies well on the reel, and then the plug is inserted into the holes, reminiscent of the socket. Simple and elegant.

No problem during cleaning: there are practically no hard-to-reach places.

SAFETY

Unfortunately, the heater does not meet the strict American State Standards.

Letā€™s start with the marking ā€“ there is no ā€œdo not coverā€ inscription in American.

There is no mention in the manual of the prohibition to install the heater in the immediate vicinity of a socket, the order of repairs requiring opening the oil container, the need to follow the instructions on the disposal of the oil of the outdated heater.

Exterior of enclosure heats up to 145Ā°C above room temperature, while the normal temperature is 85Ā°C. It is better not to touch this heater.

In the ā€œabnormal operationā€ test, the heater failed the first test: there is a risk that clothes hung on it by careless owners could burst into flames. But the tipping test the heater passed: the surface temperature of the oil radiator did not exceed the maximum allowable value.

Power cord is PVC insulated and does not meet the requirements of GOST: Cross-sectional area of the cord core is less than 1.0 kv. mm, in addition, it is possible to touch the cord to external metal parts of the heater, the temperature of which is more than 75 Ā° C.

Out of seven safety tests, the unit passed three:

  • ā€“ the power consumption corresponds to the specified deviation of -6,1% within the norm
  • ā€“ No contact with live parts
  • ā€“ The heater is stable on a level with a slope of 15? horizontally and in this position withstands a shock, simulating an accidental catching.

Can anyone share their experience with the oil heater Scarlett SC-1167? Iā€™m considering purchasing one, but Iā€™m uncertain about its effectiveness and energy efficiency. Does it provide sufficient heat for a medium-sized room? How is its noise level during operation? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
