How it works?

Fan heater DYSON Hot AM04 in operation

In conventional fan heaters, heated air is set in motion by a turbine and screw-shaped blades, closed bars. Dust collects in the slotted openings and hits the heating element, starts to smolder and fills the room with a bad smell and can ignite.

At the heart of the Dyson Hot is a patented technology to enhance air movement AirMultiplier ™: air passing through the slot holes oval circuit, forming a powerful stream of hot air.

Thanks to the aerodynamic shape of the profile of the oval contour, the air is drawn in from behind and drawn along the contour of the oval, increasing the total airflow by 6 times. There are no blades and grilles, the temperature of the heating element doesn’t exceed 200 ° C, there is no smell of burning dust or the danger of ignition.

Most air heaters use asynchronous AC motors and simple thermostats. With the Dyson Hot we can set the temperature to within a degree.

The unit is therefore quite economical: after heating the room to a certain temperature, the electricity is consumed only to maintain it. DC motor without brushes allows you to adjust the speed of airflow.

Test conditions

We tested the Dyson Hot for heating in the field: in the summer house, in an unheated house. It’s October and the outside temperature is 9-10°C. All other appliances in the house were turned off for the duration of the test, so we were able to check the energy consumption as well.

Test #1: heating a 22 m² room

Room features: it is a pass-through living room, with 2 doors to the bedrooms, 1 door to the veranda, open no door stairs to the second floor and two windows not double-glazed, traditional wooden frames , 1 floor. We can say that this is the most problematic room in terms of preserving heat: it has a place to “go”! On the one hand, it is not quite correct to test the heater in a room with an open staircase, but we, as dacha residents, are interested in this very room – because most often the whole family gathers there!

Stage 1. Time 18.30. Temperature in the room – 13 ° C, outside – 9 ° C. Power meter readings of 07876.9 kW.

We turn the device on, set the desired temperature at 20°C, airflow rate at 10.

We deliberately do not set the temperature to high. We want to create a natural environment.

Step 2. Time 19.00. Temperature in the room – 16 ° C. Power meter readings – 07877,9 kW 1 kW/ 30 min = 2 kW/h .

Conclusion: For such a room we need more “pressure”, but even this mild heating was enough to make the room 3 ° C warmer.

Step 3. Increase the temperature: Set it to 30 ° C. After 6 minutes the room thermometer we put it 3 meters away from the heater reads 20°C! Test: Let’s turn the dial to 20°C. After a few seconds the blowing stops: this means that the heater has detected that the desired temperature is reached. The Dyson Hot started working again after a minute: the temperature must have started to drop.

Test #2: Heating a 15 sq. m. bedroom

Room features: isolated room, 1 door and 1 window with wooden frames, 1 floor.

Stage 1. Time 17.30. The temperature in the room is 15 ° C, outdoors – 10 ° C. Power meter reading is 07884.4 kW.

Turn on the device, set the desired temperature – 20 ° C, airflow rate – 6.

Set fan speed to medium, since the room is small and you want to feel less of the appliance operation noise, air movement .

Step 2. Time 18.00. Temperature in the room – 20 ° C. Power meter readings – 07885,2 kW 0,8kW 30 min = 1,6 kW/h .

Conclusion: from 15 to 20 ° C such a room can be heated faster literally 2 minutes, as we later checked, setting 30 ° C , but in this case, you need to monitor the device and time to change the set temperature to avoid overheating the room.

Test #3: function as a fan

To make the Dyson Hot work without heating, you need to use the “minus” button to lower the temperature to 0 ° C. The trigger button changes the backlighting to blue when the temperature is set to plus, it is highlighted in red .

Set the airflow rate in the same way as in the fan heater mode. Starts blowing without heating, resulting in a feeling of coolness due to the strong air flow.

Test #4: safety

Stage 1. “Dropped the Dyson on the floor. The appliance shut down, just as the manufacturer promised.

Stage 2. We touch the inside of the case immediately after 30 minutes of operation. The outer panel is not heated at all, the inner panel is heated, but an unpleasant sensation occurs if you hold your finger longer than a couple of seconds. In a minute the panel has cooled down at all.
