Speaker System Overview 2.1 JBL SB300

Bookshelf Loudspeakers

Virtual surround sound mode. Wireless audio transmission technology to the subwoofer. Interesting design. High power total. Ability to connect to both analog and digital sound sources.

Central channel

No major drawbacks detected, although, in our opinion, it would be nice to have a coaxial interface for digital sound as objectively more noise-immunity.

JBL SB300 2.1 speakers

With the JBL SB300, it’s easy to turn any television into a home theater: a soundbar with a virtual surround sound function and a wireless subwoofer save the moviegoer the trouble of installing speakers and laying audio cables. The compact size and high total sound power of this set allows it to be used in small to medium-sized rooms, so the JBL SB300 can be recommended for a wide range of movie lovers.

OUTDOOR

The design of the set paid much attention, JBL SB300 is made in a techno style, which is characterized by sharp angles and straight lines. The subwoofer looks vaguely like the helmet of Darth Vader in Star Wars, and the menacing-looking soundboard looks like the weapon of some intergalactic soldier who has unwittingly ended up in his home cinema. Monochrome black coloring of the components leaves no doubt that if we are not facing a weapon of aliens, then we are facing the details of a spaceship.

And seriously, this set is performed in the style that most fully harmonizes with the appearance of modern flat-panel TV sets, it is not accidental that the monochromatic color of the soundbar and the subwoofer matches the characteristic color of the panel of turned-off LCD TV set.

DESIGN FEATURES

Kit consists of an active subwoofer and an active two-way soundbar soundbar , which can be installed on a stand next to the TV set or mounted on the wall using the brackets included in the kit. Comes with its own remote control.

Two speakers, each consisting of two 51mm conical mid-range tweeters and one 25mm dome tweeter, are built into the 116cm soundfield. All speakers are magnetically shielded from unwanted interference from TV sets and other electronic components, around which the soundbar is usually placed.

Digital Signal Processor DSP and stereo amplifier are built into the soundfield, providing up to 50 watts per channel. With the DSP and two loudspeakers, the surround sound effect is as authentic as with a full 5.1 or 7.1 a set of loudspeakers.

The subwoofer is inverter-type and equipped with a 200mm cone diaphragm driver. The floor-directed speaker is driven by a built-in amplifier that can deliver up to 100 watts of sound. Subwoofer is wireless – low-frequency audio signal is transmitted to it from the soundbar via radio link, so the subwoofer can be installed anywhere in the room without running audio wires there.

The subwoofer provides sound reproduction in the 42-200Hz frequency band -3dB and the entire set operates in the 42Hz-20kHz range -3dB . Total system sound power subwoofer + sound bar can reach up to 200 watts.

SETTINGS AND FUNCTIONS

Since the soundbar can receive digital audio, it is equipped with DTS and Dolby Digital surround decoders. Thanks to its built-in digital signal processor, the soundbar can produce sound in virtual surround sound mode Dolby Virtual Speaker function using only two front speakers built into it.

Built-in equalizer two modes allows you to adjust the frequency response of the bass register of the front speakers of the soundbar so that the sound is equally correct when the soundbar is placed both on the wall and on the table.

With the subwoofer settings you can adjust the frequency of its crossover, invert the phase of the bass signal and adjust the sound level.

COMMUTATION

Since the subwoofer is wireless, all connection interfaces are on the soundbar, while the subwoofer only has a jack for electrical connection.

To connect the soundbar to an analog sound source, such as a TV set, a stereo pair is designed, while an optical interface is designed to connect to digital sound sources.
