Sony introduces new Handycam FDR-AX700 camera

The camera features a stunning Sony-developed rapid hybrid autofocus system, adapted for stills and movies, with a multi-layer Exmor RS CMOS sensor with 1.0″ that delivers stunning image clarity in a variety of shooting situations. The HDR-AX700 supports HDR shooting, giving users the ability to capture stunning content with high detail and no color loss, even in difficult lighting conditions.

The fast Hybrid AF system ensures high precision focusing and tracking during shooting with 273 phase AF points covering approximately 84% of the frame, a high AF point density and a redesigned AF algorithm. This reduces focusing time, especially when you need precise focus when shooting 4K movies.

In movie mode, a phase-assist AF frame appears, showing the area in focus and allowing the user to easily follow the clarity of the focused subject. The new camcorders are equipped with a high-resolution OLED viewfinder OLED, size 0.39″ 2359k. Dots and handy touch control on the large 3.5″ LCD screen 1555k . dots to allow the user to quickly switch the focus system from one subject to another, while AF speed, tracking depth range and AF sensitivity can be adjusted for different subjects and content types according to the user’s creative intent.

New camcorder supports 4K HDR1 recording in HLG Hybrid Log-Gamma format, providing an instant working HDR stream. This allows the user to reduce post-production processing and create high-quality HDR content without the post-production grading that usually requires great skill and expertise. The FDR-AX700 is also equipped with the following core technologies for a variety of shooting opportunities, including:

– 4K full readout without pixel aggregation thanks to the use of the advanced BIONZ X™ image processor

– Super Slow Motion recording at up to 960 frames per secondv, which is the industry leader in the traditional camera category, as well as Full HD Slow & Quick Motionvi recording at up to 120 frames per second

– S-Log3/S-Gamut3 image profiles, for greater detail in very dark and very bright areas, as well as improved color reproduction. 29mm 35 Eq. ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* wide-angle lens with 12x optical zoom and 18x Clear Image Zoomix

– Reduces image distortion jello effect when shooting moving objects compared to conventional camcorders

Video cameras

The benefits of efficient workflow, such as proxy recording, sequential recording and simultaneous reference recording, are provided by the FDR-AX700’s dual memory card slots and multi-camera management capabilities using TC Time Code /BP User Bit functions. New camera also features REMOTE remote control terminal, Multi-Interface Shoe™ and HDMI Type A terminal for enhanced control capabilities.
