Thierry Noir, an artist recognized as one of the forerunners of modern street art, honed his skills at the Berlin Wall in the early ’80s. Every day, for five years, Noir painted expressive cartoon characters on the wall, trying to show it for what it really was – an ugly mutation of a once-great city. The need to work quickly – every time he put his brush to the wall, the artist risked being shot by GDR patrol guards – led to Thierry’s distinctive style: painting simple figures from a single solid line in several bright, expressive tones. He called his drawing style “the manifesto of the quick form.

As the wall collapsed in 1989, Noir was invited to adorn its remnants, and then he was invited to do other street art projects around the world, from Mexico and the US to South Korea and the UK. For a few weeks in Sydney, an offbeat artist turned his talent to iconic SMEG fridges in the ’50s Style’ range. The collaboration resulted in a limited edition of six FAB32 refrigerators whose charismatic design was further enhanced by the unique manner of Thierry Noir. Refrigerators with the artist’s prints in black, red and white were designed primarily for those who are not indifferent to street art and would like to add a bright exterior design detail to the home interior. The exclusive collection of art-objects was auctioned off with the proceeds going to charitable foundations.
