SIMGOT EN700 In-Canal Headphones: the pair looks shapely and sings quite well!

from little-known brand SIMGOT. The new ears, in fact, the first swallow of the Chinese guys, and from the first impressions – quite nice. Something to listen to and admire. We have only to “fly” together and test the price tag of the novelty.

Appearance and ergonomics

The box, set and design of the lugs literally glow with premium positivity: such accessories always go for “five stars”. The headphones SIMGOT reminded me of its aura of top models Hifiman – HE-1000. Neither one nor the other – the “hifimans.”.

The headphones came in a stylish white package. On the front, there are a couple of swirls in the image of the ears themselves, the logo, and the model name. On the back is a photo of the model “in the splitting form”, designed to show the beauty of novelty from the inside. About the characteristics in Chinese, I think, I will also say – maybe someone will find it useful…

Beneath the white packaging hides the embossed dragon applied to a black rough casket. I didn’t even want to open them, I would listen to them by touch… But when I did, I saw that the gold earphones were literally “inlaid” into the dark cardboard insert, and the pocket was radiating light brown genuine leather tint, having swallowed two sets of silicone tips of different size , couple of foam tips, sound tube “cleaner” and all kinds of warranty manuals and papers.

As I promised, the design of the headphones arouses desire. On the outside they are very good! The grilles are cool, and the gold trim hints at an engagement ring. Just like them and the body of the ears: silver, voluminous, it’s not ears, but rounded delights, pleasing to the eye. Here it’s easy to notice a “mole” – a small hole, as if you stabbed it with a pinprick. But for what – I will not explain at once… By the way, I did not understand what are the ears made of: it seems to be made of metal, but maybe it’s plastic after all? But the sound tube is protected by a metal mesh. The cable is not removable, pretty flexible, length 1.2 meters with a straight 3.5 mm jack at the end.

Wearing of the ears is planned by the behind-the-ear method. The fit is very good, but it’s worth focusing on the proper selection of earpieces. My friend, the owner of the small ears, said that for him these headphones are too big, because they are difficult to fit in your own ear. In general, the fit is all individual. They fit me without any problem, but they didn’t fit someone.

And now – about the “mole” and what it does here. This black dot, a small through hole near the sound tube, lets the bass out. But how much of the bass will reach your ears is a big question. Somebody’s ears will completely cover this “mole”, somebody’s only a little bit, and somebody will leave the black dot in the fresh air at all. So the structure of the auricle and the depth of fit can either deafen the bass throughout the head, or stifle the bass to “oxygen starvation” ..

Sound

Listening was done with MyST DAC 1866OCU V.2, Lotoo paw Gold, Sony PCM-D100, Hifiman HM-601, QLS QA-360. With all the sources the headphones played very well, the difference was mainly in the volume and the amount of high frequencies. On stationary equipment as the MyST DAC 1866OCU V.2 problems were minimal. The ears do quite well in any genre. But in those compositions, where the accent is shifted “to the light side of power” they can “overdo it” unintrusively.

I’d describe the sound of SIMGOT EN700 as close to neutral with a slope to the “light side of power”. They are quite musical, analytical, the music is nice and easy to play, but with some distortion in the upper register.

Bass is not protruding, without hum and muttering, it has decent speed, accuracy, its amount depends on how tightly EN700 are seated in the ear drum. In any case, the low frequencies are not badly balanced and don’t clutter up the rest of the frequency range.

I like the middle part the most in these ears. It is smooth, even, a little detached, without peaks and dips. The picture is drawn in great detail, without strain, with good detail. The vocalists are not spitting into the dance floor, but they are not remote into the deep end of the stage, they are somewhere in the center. Very good on stringed instruments. Guitars shimmer beautifully with overdubs, so EN700 has a lot to praise here. Definitely!

High frequencies are a bit bright and crumbly for my taste. They are not obtrusive, you will not get tired of them, but distortion, metal flavor and supply is a bit hollow. With a general airiness and looseness the tweeters are perceived as “dirty”, although it does not affect the listening comfort much. In 20 minutes you stop paying attention to such nuances and the music flows in a single and pleasant way!

By the way, strange as it may seem, if the ears work together with stationary MyST DAC 1866OCU, the pumped high frequencies are practically leveled. Here’s a miracle machine!

Conclusion

Very interesting ears, with their graceful, airy sound. I’m sure they will find fans. And given the hi-fi design, build quality, kit and such a low price, at least they are worth a listen. Price of SIMGOT EN700 in American online stores is about 6 500 Dollars. The price tag is quite reasonable.
