Based on the results of such personalized diagnostics, users will be able to adjust the color image on QLED TVs, allowing them to fully customize the colors. Thanks to this, people with color vision impairments can enjoy watching video images with true colors.

Hyeongnam Kim, vice president of display technology Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronicsā€œSamsung is committed to making peopleā€™s daily lives more comfortable and convenient, and we achieve this through the use of modern technology and innovation. With the launch of the SeeColors app for QLED TVs, we are ready to offer users a way to solve one of the most challenging visual perception problems with the latest display technology.ā€.

There are currently about 300 million people around the world suffering from color vision disorders, with a representative survey in Europe and North America showing that approximately 8% of men and up to 1% of women suffer from such visual impairments*. However, most people with color vision disorders are not aware of their condition and do not understand how it affects their quality of life.

With SeeColors App on QLED TVs, customers can now diagnose the type and severity of their color deficits and calibrate the color images on their QLED according to their individual test results. To offer users a simple and accurate way to diagnose color vision disorders, Samsung Electronics turned to Professor Klara Wenzel, who heads the Department of Mechatronics, Optics, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.

As part of this collaboration, the company adapted the Colorlite Test, or C-Test, methodology for televisions and mobile devices. The C-Test, developed by Professor Clara Wenzel, is a digital diagnostic test based on the idea of using color filters and mathematical modeling to assess the severity of color vision deficits. The C-Test methodology has resulted in a simple solution in the SeeColors app that allows people with color vision impairments to see the world in full color.

The SeeColors app is available for download in the Smart TV App store. Users can also download the diagnostic app from the Google Play and Galaxy App Stores for the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, S6 edge+, S7, S7 edge and S8 smartphones. Once the Galaxy smartphone is connected to the QLED TV, the TV will automatically change the color settings based on the results of the userā€™s vision diagnostics.

SeeColors is created in collaboration with ColorliteĀ®, Hungary, a company specializing in implementing this certified technology based on over 20 years of research. ColorliteĀ® uses this technology in glasses and contact lenses to help people with color vision disorders. SeeColors was the first ColorliteĀ® product to be used on TVs and smartphones.
