Samsung Electronics unveils new technology for ‘cinema of the future’

Samsung Electronics unveils its latest development, the sensational new Samsung Cinema screen. This is the world’s first HDR LED cinema display, which delivers incredible picture quality, brightness and accuracy.

Samsung will officially unveil its LED cinema screen during previews at Cinemark Century Orleans 18 and XD Theater at the Orleans Hotel & Casino March 27-30, 2017. The premiere will coincide with CinemaCon 2017, the largest and most important exhibition of the global film industry, with attendees from more than 80 countries.

Samsung Cinema’s 10-meter screen easily accommodates today’s cinema size. In addition to providing LED image quality at 4K 4096×2160 resolution, the display also exceeds DCI specifications used to assess high levels of performance, reliability and quality in digital cinema. The new screen surpasses the traditional visual capabilities of projection technology, delivers the most lifelike images and is guaranteed to impress even the most discerning viewers.

“With the growing popularity of modern home entertainment systems and streaming platforms, movie theaters must position themselves as the place to watch movies in a unique quality that users can’t get anywhere else,” said Sung Kim, vice president of Samsung Electronics America. Direct-lit Cinema Screen LED technology really delivers high dynamic range HDR cinema content at up to 10 times the brightness level offered by standard cinema projectors 146fL vs 14fL with enhanced image uniformity, no optical distortion or interference. The device delivers a highly accurate and superior color presentation, with optional ultra-contrast and low grayscale settings to display both the brightest and deepest blacks on the screen at a near-infinite 1 contrast.

The innovations implemented in the Cinema Screen will be enhanced by a state-of-the-art sound system developed by Cinema Group, a division of Harman Professional Solutions recently acquired by Samsung , in collaboration with Samsung Audio Lab. Samsung Cinema Screen recently passed the compatibility test at Keio University in Tokyo. The screen is currently undergoing DCI certification.
