Samsung Electronics presents the latest models of the Samsung ATIV family – ATIV Smart PC Series 5 500T1C powered by Atom Z2760 processors and ATIV Smart PC Pro Series 7 700T1C powered by Pentium 987 or i5-3317U processors. This is a completely new class of devices, which combines the advantages of a tablet and an ultra-compact notebook.
When users don’t need a keyboard they can easily detach it and use the Smart PC as a tablet which provides notebook-like functionality with a powerful processor, the latest Windows 8 operating system and full compatibility with classic Windows applications in a much smaller and lighter package.
“In recent years, the main trend in the development of consumer electronics has been the explosive growth of the tablet market. Samsung plays a significant role in this market, both in terms of the company’s share in it, and in terms of innovation. Media tablets are ideal for consuming content, but not for creating it.

Surveys commissioned by Samsung showed that only 20 percent of tablet owners do work with documents at least once a week. At the same time, 44% of tablet owners would like to work with MS Office documents, and of those who are only thinking about buying a tablet, 61% want to use it for such work. So the lack of MS Office and other Windows software is a drawback of the current media tablets for quite a few customers. Moreover, according to the same study, a large proportion of current tablet owners when purchasing a new model are willing to pay extra for the features they need.
“The data from this survey showed that the potential market for our new devices is huge. After all, we are talking not only about individual users, but also about the corporate market, where it is difficult to use media tablets. The Samsung ATIV Smart PC is an elegant and convenient solution for Windows-based corporate ecosystems,” added Oleg Artamonov, senior technical expert at Samsung’s Information Technology Department.
With this enterprise customer in mind, Samsung engineers add S Pen input capabilities to these new products. S Pen allows you to work comfortably with programs in a classic interface, and handwriting input is much more convenient, for example, in meetings because of the complete absence of noise. S Pen support is also implemented in MS Office – for example, in PowerPoint you can use the electronic pen to make notes, underlines, and additions while showing a presentation to the client.
Both devices are attractively designed and ultra-portable – the ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro are only 9.9 mm and 11.9 mm thick, respectively, without affecting the performance. The ATIV Smart PC Pro’s powerful Intel® Core™ i5 processor meets the high demands of professional applications and multimedia use, while the ATIV Smart PC’s next-generation Intel® Atom™ processor is perfect for everyday tasks.
Despite its compact and portable design, the distinctive feature of the two new devices is the presence of USB 2.0 for Smart PC , USB 3.0 for Smart PC Pro , micro-HDMI port, micro-SD card slot and two additional USB 2 ports.0 on the keyboard.
The main differences between the 5 series and the 7 series, other than the processor, are the screen HD in the 5 series and FullHD in the 7 series , RAM 2GB in the younger series, versus 4GB in the older series , storage 64GB eMMC in the 5 series, 64 or 128GB mSATA SSD in the 7 series and battery up to 14.5 hours of battery life on MobileMark 2007 in the 5 series, up to 8 hours in the 7 series .
Each model can be delivered in different configurations – with or without a keyboard, with or without 3G module. With the development of 4G networks in America, Samsung will ship an LTE-enabled ATIV Smart PC.
