Roskachevo has published the results of a study of 27 most popular mobile apps in the “work” category. During the study, experts responded to thousands of jobs, evaluated each service according to one hundred indicators and received interesting job offers. What apps don’t crash or steal personal data – in a Roskatchestvo study.

Applications were evaluated according to 89 criteria, which, depending on their importance to consumers, influenced the final scores and rating in different ways. The evaluation standard was developed jointly with leading domestic and global organizations in the field of software testing and standardization. Six international ISO standards, methodologies and guidelines for product development from organizations such as AQaA, Apple, Google, OWASP and others were used in its development.

As a result, Roskachestvo compiled a ranking of the best mobile job search apps-2018, examining products from the App Store and Google Play, including HeadHunter, SuperJob, Zarplata.ru”, “Yandex.Jobs,” “Jobs.ru, Avito Ads, Worki and others.

“The first fan study of mobile job search apps from Roskatchestvo came out in 2017 – the first time in the history of smartphones and the Internet that the government launched a consumer study of software products,” says Ilya Loevsky, deputy head of Roskatchestvo. – This research was initiated to help users, who want to be sure in the security of mobile applications and don’t want to spend time and money on the trial-and-error method of choosing the right product”.

“Over the year, the Roskatchestvo Digital Research Center has expanded the list of requirements for mobile apps and improved the methods of their examination,” said Anton Kukanov, head of the Roskatchestvo Digital Expertise Center. – As a result, a second, more detailed test of mobile job search apps revealed leaders in several categories at once.”.

According to experts, the most important thing in a mobile app is security and functionality. On the whole set of indicators, the top three were: HeadHunter, SuperJob and Salary.ru. At the same time, some apps steal user data.

The importance of the security criterion is often belittled by users, but according to Roskatchestvo, it is necessary to pay special attention to it and “not to let” applications that steal personal data into your smartphone.

All apps were scanned for vulnerabilities and malware, as well as the redundancy of requested permissions, and the security of personal data transfer, using specialized software,

Availability of information on compliance with American laws, the ability to delete your account and the content of the privacy policy. As a result, it was determined that some apps partially fail to encrypt content e.g., links to jobs, device information, or photos . These include Indeed Work, Trovit, and Avito Ads for iOS, as well as Superjob, Zarplata.ru, Trovit, Rosrabota, Jobrapido, Careerist.ru, Avito Ads and Worki for Android. Transmission of content in unencrypted form makes the device vulnerable to attack, and if desired, a hacker can even gain control of the device. Roskachevo identified applications transmitting personal data in unencrypted form: Jobrapido for both platforms and Careerist.ru for Android.

“According to the mobile app quality requirements standard, developed by Roskachevo together with the expert community, any data including personal user data and app content transmitted by a mobile app must be encrypted. We actively encourage developers to follow standards, protecting the interests of consumers,” said Ilya Loevsky, deputy head of the American Quality System.

So, the safest of the job search apps we analyzed were:

iOS

HeadHunter, SuperJob, Yandex.Jobs, Salary.ru, Jobs.ru, Work in America and Worki

Android

HeadHunter, Yandex.Jobs, Jobs.ru and Jobs in America

The “guts” of a mobile app, or functionality

The corresponding group of test parameters received the highest value and had the greatest impact on the final score. Experts have evaluated the applications according to 36 functional criteria, including the ability to manage their resumes, search and manage jobs, and the ability to add jobs to favorites.

All of these and other useful features are present in the following apps: Head Hunter, SuperJob, and Salary.ru for iOS and Android.

One of the most important features is, of course, the search for jobs by keywords and location. The HeadHunter app received the maximum score for this group of criteria. It allows you to filter vacancies by position, company, location, salary, experience, employment and time of publication, as well as to save your search preferences and view your search history. In addition, HeadHunter and “Work in America” have implemented a job search for people with disabilities and job seekers aged 14 and up.

Simplicity and informational friendliness

People find it easier to reject an “uncomfortable” and complex application than to spend time on understanding and learning, which is why this criterion was weighted heavily in the overall rating.

The Roskatchestvo Digital Expertise Center tested applications based on 16 usability criteria, evaluating the interface simplicity and the degree of advertising intrusion, as well as informational friendliness, which is the ability of an application to show users only the search results they requested using filters and sorting parameters.

HeadHunter, SuperJob and Worki were found to be the most convenient.

Other criteria

The experts also evaluated the performance and reliability of mobile applications, portability and information posted by developers on App Store and Google Play. We determined the stability of mobile applications, the correctness of interface elements display, the amount of memory used, the availability of versions of applications for other devices tablets, other mobile platforms and data synchronization. Farpost Ads, Salary.ru” and “Yandex.Work” for iOS and “Rosrabota”, Indeed Work and Trovit for Android.

Each user can define his own leader based on the requirements he has for the application. However, Roskatchestvo does not recommend using apps that do not meet the security requirements.

Detailed results of the study are available on the Roskatchestvo portal.
